It’s easy to watch ESPN or a UAAP championship and think that sports are about agility, strength, endurance, and training. While these do make up a large component of success in this field, there are still more that speak not only to a great game played, but also a great character: discipline, which is required to maintain one’s fitness and physique and consistently achieve an optimal performance level; confidence and courage, which are vital to being able to face an opponent or challenge head on; and graciousness, which entails meeting victory and loss with an equal aplomb and speaks to that all-important trait—sportsmanship.
