Now you know how long it usually takes these real women to recover from a break up and what factors contributed to having done so. And now you know that it can’t happen overnight, but there are certainly things you can do to make sure it happens soon enough.
You’re not helpless or hopeless as you may think you are. Whether it took these women a month or over a year, these women knew they had to do something to actually get a move on. And boy, were they creative!
Apart from doing everything girls usually do to recover—“party, shop, talk endlessly with girlfriends, drink ‘til I feel numb, pray, and cry”—Anna, 34, found a hidden talent which she used to channel her emotions and create something wonderful: “I discovered I can paint. I even had a one-woman show during the peak of my recovery,” she shares.

Meanwhile, Frances, 27, a marketing manager, treated her recovery period as she would a major project. “I really planned for it as if I was doing a comprehensive marketing plan. I made myself so busy traveling; going to work then the gym, salon, spa; and hanging out with friends that I had no time to think about the breakup,” she says.
Mayen, 24, and Vicki, 23, gave a more emotional approach to moving on: “I first acknowledged the pain and allowed myself to breakdown whenever I needed to. I prayed and attended religious gatherings,” says Mayen, who is happily single. For her part, Vicki, who recently got married, started a breakup journal and buried her nose in self-help books.
