You don’t have to starve yourself just to shed off a few pounds. With just a few tweaks in your diet and lifestyle, you can achieve that flatter tummy. Scroll down to find healthy and easy ways to minimize your mid-section in time for bikini season.
Say goodbye to your soda habit.
Most soda beverages are made of carbonated water, artificial flavors, and a lot of sweeteners (hello, sugar!), making you feel gassy and bloated. Try to veer away from consuming too much soft drinks–it may be difficult to give up, but it’ll be worth it in the long run.
Cut back on salty food.
Too much salt in your diet causes water to move from your bloodstream and into your skin, making you look puffy. If you want your meals to have that extra flavor, skip the salt and use spices in your dish instead.
Stay away from the alcohol
Aside from the other dangers of excessive alcohol consumption like liver cancer, anemia, and other cardiovascular diseases, drinking too much can also widen your mid-section. "In general, alcohol intake is associated with bigger waists, because when you drink alcohol, the liver burns alcohol instead of fat," says Michael Jensen, MD, an endocrine expert and obesity researcher with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. If you’re up for some drinking, go for red wine instead of beer.
Eat a lot of seafood.
…especially fatty fishes like salmon, tuna, and mackerel–they’re packed with omega-3 fatty acids, which can speed up metabolism, and are filled with bloat-busting protein.
Drink more water.
Keeping yourself hydrated not only helps make your skin look good and healthy, but also helps with digestion and constipation by improving your gastrointestinal tract.
Stand up straight.
Whether you’re sitting down or standing up, slouching is not a pretty sight. Look like you've shed off a few pounds with the simple trick of straightening your body. Deborah L. Mullen, a certified strength and conditioning specialist in San Luis Obispo, California says standing up taller can make you look five pounds slimmer.
