Last Friday, a lucky female call center agent was able to survive a rape try attempted on her by a robber who turned out to be a fake taxi driver.
Makati intelligence police head Chief Insp. Ferdie Satorre told the Inquirer that the victim hailed the cab along Ayala Avenue in Makati City around 3 a.m. after her shift that day.
She told the driver to take her to Taguig City but instead, the driver with the vehicle identified as a Jemsid taxi with plate UVJ 738 took her to the South Super Highway.
This was where the driver pulled out a gun and declared a holdup.
After taking the victim’s belongings including P400 cash, an ATM card and her cellphone, the robber took her to a dark side street in Guadalupe where he tried raping her.
Fortunately, the light outside one of the houses there was suddenly turned on prompting the robber to speed off – still with the victim.
He then parked the cab in another dark side street where he tried to rape her again but this time the victim was able to escape while only wearing a blouse and frantically screaming for help.
The robber also escaped but authorities spotted his cab parked along Montojo Street, near the corner of Chino Roces Avenue in a follow-up operation.
This led to an encounter between police personnel and the suspect who went back for the cab at around 3 a.m. on Sunday.
The suspect allegedly fired at the police officers after they identified themselves which resulted in a gun fight but it still ended with the suspect speeding away and shaking off the cops on his trail.
According to Satorre, the cab was stolen from Jemisid in Quezon City the previous week. A manhunt was also issued against the suspect whose identity is yet to be known.
