What's your inner stress monster?

Stress can drive sane women bonkers. Take our quiz to find out the nature that madness takes when the pressure peaks.

People deal with stress differently. Some use it to fuel them to get more things done, and some let it turn them into basket cases. But no matter how well you are able to deal with the pressures of work and other events in your life, there will be at least a few times in life (and, for some of us, more than a few), when we’ll allow stress to turn us into people we don’t really like. At FN, we call this the people we turn into when pressured stress monsters.

Of course, stress monsters manifest themselves in different ways. What kind of stress monster lives inside you? Take this quiz to find out.

1 .) When you get to your office in the morning, you find a stack of paperwork on your desk and a note from your boss saying she needs everything done by noon. What's your reaction?
  1. You curse until the air turns blue and wish you could condemn your boss to the ninth circle of hell.
  2. You show the note to one of the coworkers you’re friendly with and complain about getting such short notice.
  3. You head to the nearest convenience store to buy chocolate you can munch on at your desk as you work.
  4. You immediately ask your boss if there's any chance you can have the deadline extended.
2 .) Your boss gives you hell for an error that puts her in a bad light. How do you deal?
  1. You defend yourself and perhaps even why the mistake was hers in the first place.
  2. You tell your boyfriend all about her unfair treatment of you when he picks you up from work.
  3. You take off as soon as your shift ends and head to the mall to let off steam via retail therapy.
  4. You apologize and then dig up all your files and try to backtrack how the mistake was made.
3 .) Your officemate tells you some of your coworkers are saying nasty things behind your back. What do you do?
  1. You get in those coworkers’ faces and set them straight.
  2. You complain to your officemate about their unprofessionalism.
  3. You treat your officemate to coffee—you have to hang on to your ally, after all.
  4. You snoop around to discover what exactly they’re saying and if others share their opinions.
4 .) You've just finished that huge presentation you worked your butt off for, and it was a success. How do you celebrate?
  1. You have a little victory dance where no one can see you and maybe leave work early.
  2. You go home to your guy and seduce him to make up for all the grief he put up with.
  3. You make plans to head for the mall for some celebratory shoe shopping after work.
  4. You give yourself a pat on the back, but you're already thinking about the next phase.
5 .) It's annual raise time, and while you do get an increase, it isn't as much as you hoped or though you deserved. What do you do?
  1. Check out the job market to see if you can find a company that may appreciate you more.
  2. Share your disappointment with a colleague, without mentioning numbers, of course.
  3. You're disappointed, of course, but you still treat your friends to dinner and buy that bag you’ve been eyeing.
  4. You try to find out what you could have done that would have earned you the raise you were hoping for.
6 .) You're working late, and your guy has offered to pick you up. Except a meeting runs into overtime, and he's been texting to ask if you're done yet every five minutes. When you're finally in the car, what's the first thing you say to him?
  1. “You know better than to text me during a meeting. I said I would wrap it up as soon as I could!”
  2. “Those guys just wouldn’t stop talking. They kept repeating themselves and making circular arguments.”
  3. “Let me buy you coffee or dinner to make up for being late. And why don’t we see a movie tomorrow? My treat.”
  4. “Were you waiting long? I’m so sorry. Next time, I'll try to leave earlier, or I’ll make my own way home.”
7 .) Which of these things are you and your guy likely to fight about?
  1. The way you snap at him when he’s only trying to help.
  2. The way he keeps forgetting to do the things you’ve asked him to over and over again.
  3. The amount of money you spend on food or shopping or entertainment.
  4. Your habit of picking everything apart and refusing to leave things be when he asks you to.
8 .) What's your first reaction when you find out that the promotion you were aiming for was given to someone else?
  1. You seethe with rage at her, at your boss, even at your company's stupid promotion policies.
  2. You let a friend take you out to coffee while you list the reasons you should’ve been promoted instead.
  3. You drown your sorrows in chocolate, ice cream, or alcohol—maybe even a combination of all three.
  4. You ask your boss what you did wrong or what you could have done better.
9 .) It's peer evaluation time, and your teammates gave you low scores. What's your reaction?
  1. They'd better watch out! You've decided to give them low scores too when their time comes.
  2. You say, loudly and to no one in particular, how you wish people would criticize you to your face instead of using anonymous forms.
  3. You buy a nice dinner to cheer yourself up and distract you from thinking about how your coworkers aren't as nice as you thought they were.
  4. You ask to keep copies of the evaluation and try to figure out who gave which comments so you know who your friends are.
10 .) Which of these things would you list as an office essential?
  1. A stress ball
  2. Instant messaging
  3. An emergency candy stash
  4. To-do list pads
