fnwtk_what_eco_friendly_habits_do_you_practice.jpgWe're counting down the days until Earth Hour, which is at 8:30PM on Saturday, March 26, and we're sure that, just like last year, millions will be turning out the lights to take a stand against climate change.

But Earth Hour only happens once a year, and going green is a daily commitment. This is a lifestyle resolution many of you honor by segregating your trash, reusing household and office items, recycling, and so on. The truth is, there are so many ways to show your love for the planet! That's why we want to know what you and your family do in particular.

So FN wants to know:

We segregate and recycle; biodegradable vs. non-biodegradables items. Minimize the use of plastic bags as much as possible, whenever necessary we re-use those supermarket green bags.

at the end of the week, when food in the fridge were all consumed, we unplug it until we're able to do the groceries again. Unplugging our fridge every weekend, does not only help the environment, but also saved us a few hundreds on our electricity bill.

    1) I bring my own shopping bag everytime. One never knows when one needs it. 2)I put a basin in every sink to catch "wash" water which I use to water the plants. 3)I bought large containers to catch rainwater. We use rain to wash clothes, water plants, and even bathe in. 4) Lights we turn on for evening watch are off at 4a.m.the next day. 5) I grow my own vegetables on compost of leaves, kitchen refuse, even used sanitary napkins (blood is rich in iron, silly) Saves me money and gives me pesticide-free vegies.

Becoming a vegetarian and eating only organic, locally produced foods is the biggest way I believe I have helped to lower my carbon footprint, asides from being conscious to reduce, re-use and recycle. Compact fluorescent lightbulbs are another way I help to reduce energy usage.

We use ecobags when doing some shopping or grocery. We also recycle, and we let the kids bring the recyclables to the junk shop, it shows them that there can be cash from trash. And we also reuse dishwater by using it for watering the garden. :)
