There’s also wheezing, which happens when a shrill sound seems to sprout right out of your chest.  You find yourself uncontrollably coughing, unable to sleep, and unable to breathe normally.

While it may sound suspiciously similar to the jitters you experience upon seeing your crush, this is actually the usual scenario when somebody’s having an asthma attack.

Statistics show that asthma is a common illness here in the country. ABS-CBN reports that “12 percent of the Philippine population of 90 million have asthma,” which means you’re likely to know someone who has it. Despite being a common disease, asthma can be lethal if it's left unmanaged.
