How eco-friendly are you?

Are you living an earth-friendly lifestyle? Take this quiz to find out where you stand on the green meter! By Myra Mortega-Calulo

ecoBetween the popularity of eco-awareness movies like Big Miracle and Happy Feet and the very real efforts to raise the general population's knowledge about and commitment to a sustainable living, going green is no longer reserved for hippie-type extremists who vow to go vegan in name of Mother Earth. While there are certainly many people making those lifestyle choices, many others are making smaller but no less concrete changes to their lives in order to reduce their carbon footprints. Going green is definitely in.

But being eco-friendly goes beyond knowing the latest news and participating in Earth Hour. It’s a way of life, and sometimes this is easier said than done--and it can be hard to tell whether you're a lot or not enough to contribute to the eco movement. So just how green are you? Take this quiz to find out.

1 .) You’re shopping for groceries. What’s in your cart?
  1. Meat, poultry, and a limited selection of vegetables
  2. A mix of organic greens and some meat products
  3. Organic produce--your conscience would not be able to take it if you were to buy manufactured goods from commercial industries.
2 .) Your house comes with an outdoor area you can convert into any number of things. What do you do with it?
  1. Exercise your green thumb by converting it into a vegetable garden.
  2. Have it landscaped for a zen atmosphere.
  3. Convert it into storage space for extra stuff.
3 .) Somebody shared a video on climate change in your Facebook wall. What do you do?
  1. Read it, and repost for your friends to see.
  2. Research on it further.
  3. Ignore it completely.
4 .) How often do you bring a reusable bag to the mall?
  1. Always--you refuse to use plastic bags unless absolutely necessary.
  2. Often--you try to bring one whenever you leave the house, just in case.
  3. Never--you think those bags look too tacky, and you frequently end up leaving them in your car or at home.
5 .) You’ve drunk all your mineral water while on the go. What do you do with the plastic bottle?
  1. Keep it in your bag, so you can recycle it later.
  2. Throw it in the nearest trash bin.
  3. Throw it on the street when no one’s looking.
6 .) How do you usually receive your billing statements?
  1. Through e-mail, though there are times when printed copies are necessary
  2. Through e-mail
  3. Through snail mail
7 .) Your closet is overflowing with unused clothes. How do you get rid of them?
  1. Give them away to interested friends.
  2. Conduct a garage sale so other people can still use them
  3. Throw them away.
8 .) Where do you usually buy your groceries?
  1. At weekend markets, since most items are cheaper and organically-produced
  2. Online--this way, you avoid mall stress and the terrible commute
  3. At the nearest supermarket since it’s the most convenient place to shop
9 .) Do you leave your computer on standby mode when you’re away from it for long periods?
  1. Never--you even unplug it when you're done using it for the day
  2. Yes, sometimes, if you think you won't be long or if it's running tasks you need done
  3. Yes, often, because it's too much of a hassle to turn it on again when you get back.
10 .) How is your trash segregated at home?
  1. One can each for glass and paper recyclables, compost, and wet and dry waste
  2. A can for biodegradable materials and another for non-biodegradable materials
  3. You don’t segregate. It usually gets combined in the trash truck anyway.
