Go nuts for your diet

Mar 28, 2009 by FN's Shar Bareng

It's true: nuts have high fat content. But you don't have to worry about putting on pounds while snacking on your favorite nut, especially if it contains "good" cholesterol.

Nuts are free of unsaturated fat that can never threaten your cholesterol levels, reveals the Nutrition Advisor of Yale-New Haven Hospital. Nuts are also known to be among the best sources of vitamin E, aside from being rich in protein, selenium, and folate.

Curious about what your favorite nut can do for your diet? Check out basic nutrition facts about some of the healthiest nuts you can always indulge in. You can definitely ditch your potato chips for these.

Of course, you also have to check if you're allergic to any of these nuts—especially peanuts, which can be fatal for some. If you want to keep your calorie intake low, opt for roasted and unsalted varieties.
