Among the things that can definitely ruin your appetite is mouth burn, which happens when you eat or drink extremely hot food that your upper palate cannot tolerate. The damaged tissue may swell, develop a blister, or cause a bit of pain for some time, but you can still ease mouth burn with these tips from eHow:

  1. Give your mouth the cold treatment, quick. Minimize the swelling and lessen the pain by sucking on an ice cube or eating an ice pop.
  2. If you feel mouth burn on your cheek, try gargling or drinking cold water.
  3. Avoid spicy food and sharp food such as chips, nuts, and pineapple.
  4. Apply pectin ointment (available over the counter) or any mouth analgesic which contains benzocain directly on the burn to let it heal.
