Upcoming: Caregiver

May 23, 2008 by FN's Shar Bareng

caregiver.jpgI'll let you in on a little secret: I was raised in a Sharon Cuneta-loving household. Every time there's a new Sharon movie out, my mother, aunts, and grandmother would immediately plan their "Movie Sunday," where they leave all the cooking, cleaning, and us kids to the men of the house. It also happens when Vilma Santos, Nora Aunor, or Aga Muhlach are on, but they really get into action when Sharon is gracing the silver screen. Sometimes, when we asked nicely enough, they would let me and my cousins (mostly the girls because the boys were always okay with hogging the computer and TV at home) tag along, so that was how I was able to watch Madrasta, which I liked partly because of Patrick Garcia's role as the rebellious son.

Here's proof that they love Sharon so much: Mother's Day last week, they were debating which film to watch, Ploning or When Love Begins. They were seriously leaning towards the latter after they heard that Ploning, though really beautiful, was a bore. That stopped when my aunt had the brilliant idea of holding their Mother's Day celebration in time for Sharon's comeback film, Caregiver, opening next week.

I couldn't blame them for going for Caregiver instead. As a tribute to hardworking OFWs, this one's an absolute tearjerker, from the trailer alone. Sharon is a teacher who leaves her son in the Philippines and follow her husband in London to earn pounds as a caregiver, where their situation is basically the same (judging from the trailer), even if the pay is higher. Another plus: It was shot in London, where Sharon almost got sick due to the unpredictable weather. (Interesting thought: Will Sharon's character ultimately end up with an Englishman?)

I'm sure most of you FN girls have already seen the trailer, but for those who haven't, check out the embedded video below.

Sobfests aside, Caregiver looks interesting and will hopefully live up to the hype. Plus, it might be nice to watch with your moms if you weren't able to bond last Mother's Day.

Caregiver opens on May 28 in theaters nationwide.

being a sharon fan myself I dont think that she could do justice in such films, I too grew up in a sharon environment or it was just me, I fallowed quite a lot of sharon films since I was little, and the role seems like "Not so her" well its just my opinion i guess you have to convince me otherwise. I guess I'll just wait for it cinema's.
