What has Jomari Yllana been up to lately?
FemaleNetwork recently got to chat with Jomari in the re-launch of TV5, wherein he hosts a reality show, Philippines’ Scariest Challenge, which premieres tonight at 6:05PM. After going from Kapuso to Kapamilya, Jomari now joins the ranks of those who would like to give your TV habits a good, hard “shake.”
The still-hunky actor—who has been on and off the limelight for his TV shows and sizzling movies, and equally intriguing personal affairs gone public—manages to maintain his starpower despite not being as active in showbiz as he used to be. In the following Q&A, Jomari shares some insights on his new show, career plans, how he spends time with current girlfriend Pops Fernandez, and his take on budget dates!
What can we expect from TV5?
“They say it’s really a promising network na bago. It’s really about time we have a third player. Ang ganda nung approach nila. Actually, two, three, or five years ago, meron akong realization: ‘Kelan kaya babalik ‘yung balanced programming?’ Ngayon kasi it’s only Channel 2 and Channel 7; kung ano ‘yung ginawa nung isa, tatapatan nung isa. Alternative naman ‘yung approach ng TV5. They’re going to offer shows na wala ‘yung dalawa. I’ve very excited and happy to be part of it.”
What other TV5 shows are you part of?
“So far I’m doing just one, Philippines' Scariest Challenge. I’m hosting that, let’s see what happens. Marami silang nilulutong shows. For now we’re launching 30 shows, and that’s a lot!”
Please tell us more about the show.
“It’s the first and only horror reality game show. We travel from one haunted area to another, and sa bawat area, bawat episode, we have celebrity challengers. We ask them to do a challenge in that area one by one. Tapos kung sino’ng mananalo, charity work: the prize goes to a charitable institution of their choice.”
Have you encountered any ghosts during taping?
“I deliver the show from the studio, I explain it gap per gap; si Cesca Litton ‘yung nasa field. First episode pa lang may nahuli na kami. May nakunan kaming bata on cam. We also heard wailing sounds.
"It's a ten camera set-up kasi. ‘Pag na-setup na ‘yung camera, walang cameraman na humahawak nung camera. It just stays there. We ask challengers to wear a helmet with a camera, like in Fear Factor, tapos kandila lang at flashlight ang dala nila at may challenge silang dapat gawin. It's a very interesting show, it’s new, you’ve never seen anything like it. So far puro celebrities ang guests namin. For the first episode, we have Ara (Mina), Alessandra (de Rossi), and Arianna."
How are you and Ara, by the way?
"We worked in Maalaala (Mo Kaya of ABS-CBN). OK naman kami, friends naman kami, wala naman kaming grudges."
What else have you been busy with?
"So far puro negosyo, nag-aayos nang kaunti, 'hirap ng buhay."
What other shows are you doing?
"Kakatapos lang nung Palos in ABS. I think Channel 2 is fixing another one for me. We’ll see."
Do you have a contract with ABS?
"No. Per project lang ako, per show. No conflict there. I can do shows for anyone."
Any upcoming movies?
"Wala pa. Tingnan natin."
Where do you take a girl out on a date?
"It’s usually dinner and cocktails. It's important to have good conversation. That's all you need to get to know the person better."
Where do you usually hang out?
"I don’t go out anymore. Usually when I go out, it's on a date with Pops to dinner and movies. We also love to eat."
Budget date tip:
"Do something wherein you’re not going to spend anything. The best things in life are free. ‘Yon ang statement ko. Use your imagination and diskarte."
