Single review: David Cook's "Light On"

Oct 1, 2008 by FN's Shar Bareng

ai4_davidc.jpgDavid Cook's "Light On," the new single off his upcoming album, was finally released in iTunes yesterday, but fans of this year's American Idol were able to listen to the song after it was released to radio stations and his official website last week. Was it a nice transition from "Time of My Life" and his performance in American Idol?

After getting to know David during his Idol stint, it's undeniable that the lyrics to "Light On" are very spot-on with his personality, in the sense that it speaks of his longing for home and the comfort of the familiar. And while it's undeniably a "rocker song," "Light On" is very catchy and certainly stamped with David Cook's signature sound. Click the video embedded below to listen to David's first single!

Andrew Cook, David's younger brother, praised the song for having a separate identity from the American Idol sound. "The song is a great representation of why my brother is not only good enough to win a television show but good enough to be a successful artist in today's music scene," he told MyFox Kansas in an interview a day after the single's release.

What do you think of David's first non-Idol single? After listening to it, would you consider buying his album come November?
