We've heard from our friends from PEP that Regine Velasquez is leading the cast of GMA-7's My Name Is Kim Sam Soon , the remake of the Korean drama about a single 30-something whose goal in life is to change her rather funny name and find her one true love. Plus, GMA-7 has finally confirmed that her leading men will be Mark Anthony Fernandez and Wendell Ramos, also from the Kapuso network.

Apparently, GMA had difficulties in casting the leading men roles since they were aiming specifically for guys who are younger than Regine, as her Kim Sam Soon character gets involved with a guy ten years her junior. Mark will play Cyrus, Sam Soon’s young boss who is still hung up on his ex-girlfriend, while Wendell will be Danny, a doctor also set to win Sam Soon's heart. The taping for the Sam Soon remake will start on May 1, to be directed by Dominic Zapata and Khryss Adalia.

This gives us all those fun flashbacks from the original My Lovely Kim Sam Soon! One funny moment that stands out in memory is Sam Soon's rant against all single women whom she sees as her competitors in finding Mr. Right. Who can forget that hilarious love-hate relationship between Sam Soon and Cyrus (and especially that pink stuffed pig)? It also wasn't easy to get over the cuteness that was Hyun Bin in his role as Jin-Heon/Cyrus, who never fails to make Sam Soon’s life sweet yet miserable.

Along with the Kapamilya network’s own remake of My Girl, it seems as if our primetime programs are finally starting to lean on "dramedies." While this may be a good thing, we can't help but wish that our local writers come up with our own series, and not just flesh out the plots from foreign dramas. Still, we look forward to funny and feel-good remakes, and cross our fingers that they won't milk needless drama out of them.
