The first film produced by Judy Ann Santos, Ploning, proved to be a charm as it has been chosen to represent the Philippines in the Best Foreign Language Film category in the 2009 Academy Awards.
Ploning was chosen from a list of four local films which included Endo, Caregiver, and Tribu.
"Ibang klaseng blessing din naman ang naibigay sa akin ng Panginoon ngayon. Sabi ko nga, ‘yung mapili ka lang, pasok na," Judy Ann told PEP. After the success of Ploning, Judy Ann has expressed plans of producing more movies.
Meanwhile, two ABS-CBN programs might score honors for the country in the Emmy Awards, the premier award-giving body for television in the United States. Volta, the now-defunct show starring Ai-ai de las Alas, has been chosen as regional semi-finalist in the Comedy category of the 2008 International Emmy Awards, while Sarah Geronimo's Pangarap na Bituin is hoping to snag an award in the Telenovela category.
Volta and Pangarap na Bituin have earned second and third Emmy nominations for ABS-CBN after the primetime news program Bandila was nominated in the Awards' News and Current Affairs category last year.
The complete list of nominees for the International Emmy Awards will be announced in October.
