Kapuso and Kapamilya sharing the same movie play date. Again.

Oct 8, 2008 by Dinno Erece, entertainment correspondent

carlene.jpgSo many news yet so little space so we begin this with what could be the last big match-up of 2008 before the mother of all match-ups called MMFF-P 2008. We’re not talking about the Pacquiao-De Hoya fight either.

Star Cinema continues its 16th anniversary blitz with the reunion team up of Vhong Navarro and Toni Gonzaga in My Only U opening this October 22. Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, Vhong and Toni were last paired in the 2005 hit D’Anothers that’s why it’s highly anticipated.

Thing is, they have to share this play date with GMA Films’ Sundo starring Robin Padilla, from the creative team-up of scriptwriter Aloy Adlawan and director Topel Lee that brought the first big horror movie of the Kapuso Network film arm, Ouija.

Plus points: the films have different genres. Only horror and comedy films are guaranteed to rake in money, and it helps that Robin and Vhong are proven A-list stars in the box office.

The catch: There are 52 play dates in a year and the number of local movie releases is even less, that’s why we always wonder why two local movies have to fight out a single play date.

Questions we’d like answered. Can people—particularly beautiful ladies like Precious Lara Quigaman, Denille Lou Valmonte, and Karen Loren Agustin-Ostrea, beauty queens all—be banned from being seen in and around the Araneta complex including the coliseum and Gateway mall? Can a Miss International winner be stripped of her local title even if she earned this years ago? It’s storm season and there’s one gathering in the beauty pageant front with the formation of a new title, Turismo Pilipina, created by three Binibining Pilipinas title holders. And we heard Ms. Stella Marquez-Araneta is not at all happy.

Sighted.
Beauty queen turned songstress Carlene Aguilar is singing a different note now, post-partum and post-Dennis Trillo. Willing to lend a pair of hands—for applause purposes, of course—amid the audience of Celebrity Duets Season 2 (where Carlene is a contender) is a former model who goes by the name of Yoyo Ocampo. And he’s always seated beside the beauty queen’s mother, mind. These hands are the same pair we saw carrying Carlene tarpaulin outside GMA after the show’s taping last Saturday.

Blindly. Designer J was seen in two separate occasions with chef J in tow. Could it have been just bonding, since it was model B whom we saw supporting designer J in his singing challenge?
