Yes, we still miss Heath Ledger, so we couldn't help but cheer when CNN reported that a portrait of the late actor won an Australian art award last May 8.
The painting "Heath" by Australian artist Vincent Fantauzzo features three versions of the actor--one staring directly from the canvas, and a version of him on either side whispering into the central figure's ears. It was the popular choice of more than 32,000 people who attended the Art Gallery of New South Wales' annual national portrait competition. You can check out a photo of the painting here. ArtKnowledgeNews.com reported that the portrait was done with Heath's cooperation, proven by the fact that Fantauzzo has been friends with the actor for about five years, and also by a signed form confirming the painting's authenticity as a requirement for the art contest only weeks before he died of accidental drug overdose in January.
It's disturbing how troubled he looks in the painting, but we could only hope that he's happier wherever he is now.
