Just a thought: Music tourism for our economy

By now, majority of Death Cab for Cutie fans in Manila have secured their tickets for the band's Singapore run in August. They, of course, have already booked flight tickets, hotels, and are pooling the pocket money to spend on chicken rice and pepper crab.

Filipinos love music and I would argue that the audience is getting more sophisticated than previously imagined. Credit our local musicians for that: the OPM scene is dynamic and intelligent and more importantly, is creating a gig-going culture.

All you need is love

The Beatles were right. All people need is love, and unfortunately these days, true love is hard to find.

Breaking news in New York fashion circles is the suicide of model Ruslana Korshunova. While police reports rule it as a suicide, some blogs have already created theories of it being a murder involving either her present or ex boyfriend.

Whatever the cause, the root of this tragedy is obviously the lack of love and trust in her life.

When shows make the music

It's almost impossible to imagine Jaws without its trademark background music. It's difficult to separate the scary scenes with the eerie "dum dum dum dum" sound, and even just hearing a snippet of this without the visuals is enough to send shivers down one's spine.

A musical score is essential to movies and TV shows as it intensifies scenes by conveying emotions through sounds. These days, however, music is moving from the background and taking centerstage.
