No stopping the local Gossip Girl: Lipgloss

Aug 18, 2008 by FN's Shar Bareng

As of the last count in the local Gossip Girl poll, 75 per cent said that they couldn't imagine watching a local version, 16 per cent said they'd give it a chance, while 6 percent might take a peek if their favorite actors were in it. The official launch of TV 5, however, confirmed that there was no stopping Lipgloss, the loose local adaptation of the hit TV series, which premiered in the re-launched channel last Saturday.

Link love: the weekend in review

Aug 18, 2008 by FN's Shar Bareng

* Gretchen Espina of Biliran was crowned the first Pinoy Idol and received P5.7M worth of prizes to boot, while Bunny Malunda was expelled from Pinoy Dream Academy.

* Jennylyn Mercado's baby boy has finally arrived!

* After so much suspense, ABS-CBN has confirmed that John Lloyd Cruz is playing Armando in I Love Betty La Fea. John Lloyd looked pretty fierce as Sarah Geronimo's boss in A Very Special Love, too.

* Sad news for Harry Potter fans: Warner Bros. has made official the new release date of the movie in July 2009, while Twilight takes Half-Blood Prince's previously announced release on Nov. 21.

* Tropic Thunder finally ended The Dark Knight's four-week reign at the U.S. box office.

* Olympic watch: Michael Phelps broke the record for the most number of gold medals won by an Olympian for a single sport that Mark Spitz has held for 36 years. Not exactly entertainment, but wouldn't you agree that he has made swimming more interesting and worth watching since his six golds in Athens back in 2004?
