Soapmaking / bath and body care products
« on: January 23, 2012, 03:40:52 PM »
Hello mga sis!

I've decided to open this thread so I could share and also get some insights from other hobbyist.

This is my current hobby, gumawa ng handmade soap.  Nagumpisa ako gumawa ng soaps nun October 2011. I mostly make cold process soaps. It's really fun and rewarding (kung maganda yun end results).

Sa mga sis natin na gumagawa rin,  I hope you could share your experiences and ideas. Also, maybe we could exchange recipes as well.

sis rainebowbrite, Totoo, sobrang interesting at addicting sya.
Basic ingredients:
1.) Lye/caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) - eto ata yun mahirap hanapin dyan sa pinas - pero subukan mo yun mga chemistry supplies stores o kaya sa hardware, dapat 100% lye
2.) distilled water
3.) Oils (coconut, palm, vegetable oil, olive, canola, corn - etc.)
4.) Optional: essential oils or fragrance oil

What's your fave among sa mga nagawa mo?

@Rainebowbrite: here's a photo of my soaps.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/34180265@N04/6769375079/in/photostream

So far, my fave is the white soap in the middle of the pic. (ingredients: coconut/olive/palm/castor oil, cocoa butter, kaolin clay, coconut lime fragrance - bit of cocoa powder for the lining)
Katulad nun blue-green soap. It was supposed to be a cupcake soap with peach-colored icing. Pero nag morph yun kulay during gel stage, naging off-white yun color.

For the molds, you can make your own wooden mold, use tupperware containers, boxes (yun matigas), ice cube trays, etc.

Magandang business dyan sa pinas one-stop-shop for soap-making/bath supplies kasi madaming interesadong gumawa.

   1 glass Caustic Soda (NaOH)

   3 glasses water

   5 glasses cooking oil

   1/2 glass juice or extract

Procedure:

Prepare the materials and the utensils needed.

Measure 1 glass of caustic soda and 3 glasses of water and pour into a plastic pail.

Mix well by stirring continuously using a wooden ladle or bamboo stick. Use only one direction in mixing the mixture. Stir until the caustic soda is dissolved.

Pour 5 glasses cooking oil into the mixture.

Continue stirring until a consistency of a condensed milk is achieved and add 1/2 glass of juice or extract.

Pour the soap mixture into desired plastic molders. Set aside and let it cool to harden.

After 4-5 hours, remove the soap from the molder.

Allow 30 days of ageing before packing. Label the soaps.

Indications:

Calamansi - fruit extract or juice (bleaching soap)

.
Sis, if this is your first time making soap, It is really important to read up on soap making basics. Kasi yun sa procedure---sabay ihahalo yun caustic soda and water sa isang pail? Halos lahat ng references na nabasa ko, you pour Caustic soda into Water (not the other way around nor at the same time). Caustic soda is a dangerous material.

LOL

mga sis, you can contact Technology Resource Center http://trc.dost.gov.ph/index.php for info on soapmaking course.

@rainebowbrite, sis sorry lol sobrang late reply, you're welcome.
