TIGDAS HANGIN/ BABY MEASELES/ROSEOLA
« on: November 10, 2011, 09:47:56 AM »
Help!!! My baby is turning 1 this coming Nov.13. Nag start fever ni baby on Nov.4 3 days fever ni baby at one point umabot ng 39+ Tempra lang gamot pinainom ko super panic kami since wala yung pedia ni baby (out of the country) yung reliever lang niya nandyan. At the time na may fever si baby may  6 pcs  na maliit na red dots sa katawan nya pero di na siya dumami pa may gana pa sya uminom ng milk 6 oz every 3 hrs +2 solid food after 3 days nawala na fever nya pero may rashes na si baby starting sa back then sa face mas dumami pa nga ngayon sa left  side ng face ad back nya wawa nga baby ko mag bi-birthday pa naman.... huhu :'( :'( :'(  Ngayon wala sya gana uminom ng milk kahit water ayaw nya kelangan pilitin pa  umaabot ng 5-6 hours yung gap ng pag-inom ng milk tapos consume nya 2- 3oz lang

Sabi ng reliever na rule out nya yung hand/ foot mouth since wala siya nakita sa mouth ni baby. Mas milder daw ang case ng tigdas hangin or baby measles also known as roseola infantum because it will go away on its own even without medication. After 3 days usually mag subside na yung fever pero kung meron din on the 4th day kelangan talaga ng blood test (cbc) Worried lang talaga ako sana pagdating ng birthday ni baby  magaling na siya. May ipinainom na isoprinsosine 2x a day saka capsule na OM-X probiotics what we did is we cut the capsule sa side tapos ni squeeze out namin yung laman para mainom ni baby. Sa rashes naman walang gamot na binigay.

Mga mommies, When ba mawawala yung rashes saka ano ginawa nyo?

nagkaganyan din baby ko when he was 1yr and 2mos old, super  panic kami mag asawa kasi after the 4days fever nya sobrang nagkarashes buong katawang nya! pati mukha as in lahat. nakaka panic talga lalo na at first time mom ako. halos araw araw kaya kami nasa pedia para magpa check up, nakulitan na nga samin pedia nya pero she understands naman kasi nga first time parents kami ni hubby. pero nagsubside naman yun rashes after 2 days nun pag inom ng virlix oral drops , parang walang nangyari.prescribe din pedia ng paracetamol if in case lagnatin pa daw si baby, luckily indi na siya nilagnat nun lumabas un rashes nya.

Tigdas hangin is a viral infection so it goes away by itself. Supportive lang talaga ang treatment. Make sure that the child is comfortable and well hydrated.
If Roseola: 3 to 5 days of high grade fever; child may be irritable or ill looking; child may have cough or colds prior to or with fever; swollen lymph nodes
Once the fever disappears, the rash begins to appear on the trunk (body/chest) then spreads out. Rash may last 3 to 5 days also

If German measles or Rubella: 1 to 3 days of low to moderate grade fever with note of swollen lymph nodes, may have mild cough or colds, sore eyes/conjunctivitis
Once fever disappears, rash appears on the face and neck then spreads to other areas of the body. Rash may last for 3 days then may shed in fine flakes after
If there is a pregnant woman in the household, make sure that she is not exposed to a child or any patient with Rubella kasi delikado sa unborn child if it gets infected. It might bring about Congenital Rubella syndrome.
Rubella is part of the MMR vaccine kaya it is a preventable illness.

Wala pang vaccine against Roseola.

Saka the blood test showed lower-than-normal platelet count (pero di naman super baba), kaya sabi ng pedia under observation baka possible na dengue.

Doc, how do we know po kung tigdas hangin lang siya or dengue na? Through blood test po ba lagi?  :(

^ Magkaiba ang rashes ng Dengue at tigdas hangin.
In Dengue, sa febrile phase pa lang, manonotice mo na mapula ang skin ng patient because lumalapot ang dugo. The child is irritable with body pains and headache. No cough, colds or conjunctivitis na kasama. Once fever disappears, flat red pin point rashes may appear on the arms and legs. Pwede rin red flat blotches on the legs going up.
Sa CBC with platelet count, you would notice na mataas ang hematocrit, mababa ang wbc at mababa ang platelet count during the time na wala ng fever. Isa rin sa binabantayan sa Dengue ang hematocrit kasi pag mataas ang hematocrit, that means lumalapot ang dugo and at risk din for complications like bleeding.

In tigdas hangin, there are other associated symptoms such as cough, colds, conjunctivitis, etc. Ibang area of the body nilalabasan ng rashes. Pwede around the face or on the trunk. Iba rin ang appearance of the rashes: raised reddish rashes that becomes white with pressure. If you do a CBC with platelet count, you would notice na normal ang hematocrit, pwedeng mababa or normal ang wbc and normal ang platelet count.
When in doubt, consult your pedia kasi once lumabas ang rashes, madali naman to differentiate between the 2.

^ Roseala most often affects infants less than 2 year of age, but it may rarely affect older children and even adults.

^ Kung sure na roseola, no effect on pregnancy.
Pero if it's not really Roseola and it's Rubella pala, there's the danger of getting Congenital Rubella syndrome.
I suggest you clarify it with the pedia and have a consult with your OB. If there is a doubt in the diagnosis, ask your OB if you can have a Rubella IgM and IgG test done to check if you got infected.

^Thanks doc.

Doc lelet, I'm 10weeks preggy and I'm afraid my son might have Roseola or rubella. Is my understanding of your post correct that you can only differentiate the 2 once the rashes appeared? No rashes yet as of today eh. Also is conjunctivitis can only be seen in rubella cases or it is also possible to manifest in Roseola? My son initially had conjunctivitis before he had fever. Conjunctivitis started last Monday, while up and down fever last Tuesday til today. Temp ranges from 38.5 to 40.5. He had a CBC earlier this morning but I can't remember the results but I'm pretty sure his platelet count is normal. Thats the first thing i checked since I was afraid he might have dengue. I'll check later when my husband's gets home since I left the results in his car. But on other symptoms, he has sniffles and occasional coughing (but this could be too allergic rhinitis). plus he keeps pulling his hair hair or keeps saying head is "ouie" so I'm assuming his head hurts. Appetite is low as well.

Now, worst case scenario if it is rubella, will I/the baby be at risk  even though I had MMR vaccine (this my mom is pretty sure).

@hunny_ally:
Aside from the distribution of the rashes, the fever of Roseola also tends to be high (may reach 39 to 40), but the child appears well despite the fever while the fever of rubella tends to be low grade. Conjunctivitis, cough and colds may appear in both Roseola and Rubella. Best to have him check by his pedia to be sure.
Did you get 2 doses of the MMR vaccine? If yes, then there is a good chance you already have immunity and will pass this immunity through maternal antibodies to your baby.
If unsure, you can have a Rubella IgM and IgG test done. If IgM is reactive, then that means you have a new rubella infection. If IgG is reactive, then it means your immune system was already able to produce protective antibodies, either through infection or vaccination.

i rushed my 14-month-old baby to a nearby clinic at midnight on Sat. because she had a convulsion due to high fever. Upon checking her temp at the clinic, her fever was 39.8 degrees. The doctor looked at her throat (for more or less 5 seconds) and said the baby has a throat infection. My baby had paracetamol injected on her upper right leg and we were prescribed paracetamol  (5ml every 4 hrs) and atadar (?) (co-amoxiclav) (5ml) 3x a day. yesterday, Tuesday, I noticed red spots all over my baby's body and i think she has measles and not throat infection. Could the antibiotics do any damage to my baby?  Should I discontinue giving it to her?

^ I think the best thing to do is to bring your baby to her pedia so she can be evaluated properly and to determine the need for antibiotics. There is a need kasi to clarify the diagnosis due to the onset of new symptoms (rashes).

yup  sabi kasi ng reliever if more than 3 days yung fever dapat magpa- blood test na. Thankfully, nawala na  rashes ni baby on his 1st birthday buti naman wala na ako nakita kahit isang red dot. You can imagine the stress that i went through super panic talaga ako kasi dami niya talaga rashes all over the face &  body...
