Tapos my parents put up a sari-sari store 6 years ago (year 2006).

Grabe no.

Hindi pa kami mayaman, infact di kami nakatira sa subd pero i can say na umangat talaga ang buhay namin, mala-rags to riches na din. (BTw, kaya ko nakita ang thread na 'to kasi i'm researching about business, hehe)
I love wedding details!

That's great chemarie. :) Wag ka mahiya ipakita mo sa parents mo your interested in your family business or any type of business. Im sure matutuwa sila to know your interested in the family business and as your in college na. Its good you should start learning about your family business na rin. ;)

My Story: How I Replaced My Job With My Dream Business

Back in 2002 I'm probably in the same situation like most of you.
I want to go on my own. I want to have my own business.

I'm sick and tired of working though the salary as computer
programmer is good. And I know to reach financial independence, I
need to have my own business.

But it wasn't easy.

We're basically trained and educated to be an employee and being
an entrepreneur is completely different. Mentality particularly.

So what I did is read as many books, learn from other
entrepreneurs, and just do it. Like in everything...

...sa umpisa mahirap.

In early 2005, I was in Starbucks in Tagatay with my then
girlfriend (now my wife.) If you've never been there, they have
this patio over looking Taal Volcano. It was really nice.

While sipping a hot coffee and enjoying the fresh air I told my
girlfriend...

"My dream is to have a business where I can just bring my laptop
here in Starbucks Tagaytay, do business, and make a lot of
money."

It was really just a dream back then since I have no clue what
kind of business can do that for me.

In March 2006, I learned about marketing and other info on
how to start a part-time business and make a full time income from it.

Again, in the beginning everything is difficult. The information
is overwhelming.

I worked hard. Learn and fail fast. Until one day...

...I finally made it.

I started making serious money working just an hour or two a day.
Until I'm making about P250,000 a month part time.

I scaled up my business, systematized it, and hired two people.

After a year or so that part-time business was making little over
$10,000 or about half a million pesos a month… and I’m still
employed.

For the first time in my life I had a 3 months vacation last
December with a budget of more than half a million to spend just
for vacation.

Life is good!

Being employee can't give you that.

My point is this start dreaming, start planning, and here's the
key...

...JUST DO IT!

You'll stumble no matter how much you prepare. Just learn from
your mistakes, stand up, and move on.

Believe in yourself and the God who created you.

Truly inspiring. To say na bilib ako sa tyaga at disiplina ng mga nakwento dito is an understatement.

(I've been looking for rags to riches stories and most of the ones out there are hindi naman talaga galing sa hirap -- born into upper middle class, a business handed over to them by parents, able to afford grad school, may konting mana from grandparents...while I don't want to belittle anyone's achievement, these do not exactly fall under the "rags" category.)
"I think I'm paranoid."

Subscribing. I have always believed na hindi ko talaga ikayayaman ang pagiging empleyado. Sabi ko na nga ba tama ako. I'm an employee now with a business on the side. unti-unti kong bibitawan tong pagiging empleyado ko. Nakakainspire ang mga kwento. One day, magkukwento din ako. :D
