Jessica Zafra's books are awesome. I also like Para Kay B by Ricky Lee. And my favorite of all time, CUBAO MIDNIGHT EXPRESS by Tony Perez. He captured the Filipino essence in this book. All at the dangerous, mystical, yet beautiful Cubao.

Favorite ko din itong Cubao Midnight Express. And my fave Ricky Lee's book is Trip to Quiapo, i do write kasi  :)

^Thanks sis for the info. Though medyo out of the way sis. I'll try if I can have it transferred sa malapit na branch dito sa amin sa Cavite.

Wow this is a refreshing thread. I have been wanting to read more local works pero somehow walang time, effort, at sapat na motivation. Although so far, hindi man full weight of a book yung nabasa ko sakanila, I like the short stories of Nick Joaqin, the poems of F. Sionil Jose, and.. Though not within that line, the wits of Jessica Zafra. :)

Oh and I almost forgot! Ophelia Dimalanta's poems as well.

yung kay chico and delamar the morning rush- asteeg din.
yung kay ero ba yun? tinatamad akong basahin. ayaw ko na mala-novelang libro.

I read Miguel Syjuco's Ilustrado when it came out.  Not an easy read cause it has an Inception-ish feel to it.  But the mindblowing ending makes it worth your while. :)

It's also very witty and smart, and I like "fictional" references. Parang fashionpulis lang ang pag guess ko ng mga characters. :)

I'm a bookworm, but I rarely read Filipino books. Yung mga nakikita ko kasi parang masyadong seryoso yung mga subjects.. Jessica Zafra is okay, but not really my type. I wish though magbloom yung industry for Filipino writers, tsaka I know a lot of young writers who have potential.

I like Helen Meriz too.

^I don't think may ebook for tagalog pocketbooks. You'll notice much of the books that have digital versions are those from abroad. Pag local malamang wala.

Not sure if we already have this kind of topic, but aside from Bob Ong, Jessica Hagedorn, Ricky Lee and Jessica Zafra can you recommend other local authors? Thank you.  ;)

I have Bulaklak ng Maynila and Anak ng Lupa by D. Landicho. Nosebleed sa Tagalog! Hanggang nagyon hindi ko pa rin nababasa. I don't even remember kung paano ako nagkaroon ng mga book na ito  ;D

I have Twisted7 by Jessica Zafra, ABNKKBSNPLAKO?! by Bob Ong, some Pugad Baboy, complete series of  Kiko Machine comic book by Manix Abrera and I'm planning to buy ALL Ambeth Ocampo's books  :D

In college, I read books by F. Sionil Jose, Butch Dalisay, Danton Remoto, Lualhati Bautista, etc.

I like reading Bob Ong, Lourd de Veyra, Jessica Zafra (pero sana mag-mellow na ang angst nya haha), Randy David, Arnold Arre. I'd like to try our own chic lit and graphic novels.
