Had my upper and lower left impacted wisdom teeth extracted na by dr.macasiray. He's really good and relaxed lang while doing the operation. Im doing my other two impacted teeth on my right side sa july 3 but before that they have to remove the sutures first. My wounds are beginning to heal slowly and i can go back to my regular activities soon :)

Sharing my Wisdom Tooth Extraction experience...

July 17 - my tooth ached so badly that I needed to take a leave from work.  Dentist said it was an impacted wisdom tooth (lower left) and has to be removed immediately.  Sabi nya I have to take pain reliever and antibiotic for 7 days before magawa yung procedure.  But before the procedure, I need to have a panoramic x-ray done first to check the severity, etc.

Dahil sobrang kulit ako and I don't want my SL na masayang, I went out to have my x-ray and for second opinion na rin.  In short, same yung diagnosis, odentectomy ang solution.  Two different surgeon but the charge was both P7000-P10000, depending on the result of x-ray.

Di pako nagconfirm for an appointment with the oral surgeon because I want to research first.  Good thing that GT never fails me talaga.  I saw the raves about Dr. Uy so i  tried researching more.  I found out that he has a clinic in QC (Panay corner Timog).  I did contact Dr. Uy directly and fortunately meron sya clinic sa Panay today (July 18).  I made an appointment for extraction agad.

July 18- My appointment was 10am.  Around 9:15 we were already in the clinic.  Around 9:30am dumating na si Doc with her GF(?).  Procedure started at 9:45.  Positive point na agad kasi I was expecting late sya dadating (you know, doctors).

Through the x-ray that I have, he explained to me everything.

Some doctors kasi wait for the antibiotic course to be finished first before doing the procedure for the reason that they want the infection (pus) to be drained before the surgery.  Kaso ang nagiging problem with that is sometimes hindi 100% nung infection is nadadala ng antibiotic, may natitira pa rin kaya during the procedure itself, masakit pa rin kahit may anesthesia na.

Again, mine was infected and with pus/abscess na.  Sabi nya ayaw na nya rin hintayin to finish the antibiotic that I'm taking kasi nga naman after the procedure I need to take another set of those for the wound.  Gusto daw nya for his patients, iirrigate na agad yung abscess during the procedure itself thru the anesthesia to not prolong the agony anymore.  So yung sakin pagka-inject ng anesthesia, he washed/irrigated yung infection and made sure na wala nang abscess before starting the procedure.  When he was taking those out, mejo masakit pero parang kagat lang naman ng langgam.  He washed it about 4 times hanggang sa wala na ako nararamdaman at all, and he said it was because all the pus was out already. Then he proceeded with the extraction.  I just felt pressure but NO PAIN at all.  My procedure took about 30 mins only.

The only problem that I encountered was that the anesthesia wore off so quickly (masakit na sya 20 mins after the procedure) to the fact that nasa cab pa lang kami sobrang sumakit na agad.  As in super sakit to the point na tumutulo na kusa yung luha ko.  Dumaan kami drugstore to buy the meds (pain reliever and Hemostan).  Nakainom nako ng Ponstan pero walang effect.  I texted him right away.  He was shocked kasi sobrang bilis naman daw mawala effect saken.  He told me to just eat something cold, apply cold compress and the pain will be gone on its own.  That's the most painful thing na naencounter ko talaga.  Pero it's not the fault of the doctor.  I believe it has something to do with my metabolism, etc.

The pain went away after a few hours.  I'm taking Ponstan every 4 hours just to relieve my pain.  So far I have no bleeding, sana tuloy tuloy na.

Overall, my experience with Dr. Uy was superb (except that the anesthesia wore off too quickly; of course it's not his fault).  Not to mention that his service is so cheap.

and Oh by the way, I would agree with our sisses here, he's so charming as well as his GF.  Not really sure if she's her GF, hehe, pero they're so perfect together :)

Hello everyone! I hope somebody could help me with my concern, need insights lang  :)

I have an impacted tooth din kasi, yung sa lower left. I already had consultations with two different dentists, sobrang magkaiba yung findings nila sa akin so now, I'm confused kung kanino ako maniniwala.

Sabi nya kasi there's no point na po in retaining those teeth kasi sira naman na daw.

Last question, yung mga ortho ba do they also perform regular tooth extraction pati yung pagtanggal ng impacted tooth?

Ayun, sorry kung sobrang haba, sana talaga may mag-reply dito.. badly need your insights. Thanks!  :)

@siege_a
in my opinion, mas okay yung dentist #1 kasi pinapakuha ka nya ng panoramic x-ray.  dun nya titignan yung impacted teeth mo.  tapos she will save pa ngipin mo na pwede pang ma-save.

yung sa dentist #2, parang may mali sya kasi pano nya sasabihing tutubo yung wisdom teeth mo kapag binunot yung molars mo?  pano if tagilid yung wisdom teeth mo?  eh di hindi rin tutubo yun.  tapos hindi ka pa pinapakuha ng panoramic x-ray, pano nya malalaman yung position ng wisdom teeth mo?
Do some time with the one you love.

@Dacian thanks for your reply! :)

Hi!! Its best to see an xray for a better judgement..

Sis, Pwede ka ba kumuha ng panoramic xray and upload it online and pm me the link so I can take a look at it..

Impaction removal is an Oral Surgery Practice. Depende sa training ng Dentist mo.

In my case I practice Ortho, and I dont do impactions, instead I refer to a specialist.

I think both of those Dentist have a point. Im guessing decayed ang 1st molar mo. Pwede magmove and ibang teeth into the place but also depends on how young you are and thru the help of braces. How old are you na? My point yung pag tumubo ang 3rd molars sa upper itutulak ang teeth forward but once nangayri na eto, you cant push them back in by removing the 3rd molars. You may need to remove this for ortho consideration. This may help but not solve the problem of your protruding front teeth.

About your Dentist's suggestions:

The first Dentist's approach is more conservative, practical and time saving.
The second Dentist's idea is more time consuming but also the long term goal is that in the future you retain healthy molars instead of rootcanal treated molars.

Hope this helps! Good luck :)

Hi Doc Smile!

I went to the 2nd dentist last Sunday kasi nagpa-pasta na ako, I asked her again kung sure talaga siya na lalabas yung impacted tooth ko. Sabi nya oo daw, vertical daw kasi yung akin (nakikita po ba yun kahit wala pang xray?) and almost half naman daw yung nakalitaw kaya lalabas daw talaga yun once may space na. By the way, turning 26 na po ako next month. Sabi pa nya ayun na daw yung ginagawa nilang practice ngayon instead of removing the wisdom tooth so siguro kailangan ko na lang din talaga mag-trust sa kanya heheh... same case kasi kami ng bf ko, hindi din daw tinanggal yung impacted tooth nya, binigyan lang ng space and ngayon nalakabas na daw.

About my lower 1st molars, yep decayed na nga po.

Sorry siege_a. Dont want to give you high hopes but since your already almost 26, It may or may not erupt in place. Kasi normal age of eruption of third molars is 17-21. If it wanted to erupt, it will erupt pushing all your teeth forward and making your other teeth crowded (like your upper jaw) and may cause "sungki" so di din assurance yung pag nabunot ang first molar, tutubo sya. Pag nabunot and 2nd molar, more chances of eruption kc wala namang ngipin nakaharang.
If ok pa naman ang first molar mo and d sya ganon ka decayed at pwede pa pastahan, then just remove the 3rd molar. Its that simple. Remember Malaki ang 1st molar. Mahirap imove and iclose ang big gaps. So if you take the second option, u need braces, but its still a huge space. Theres a limitation to this especially if non growing patients na.

Then again mahirap mag assume ng situation kung walang xray :) Take a picture na din. (if u can)

Hi Doc :)

Dentist specializing in Orthododontics is called Orthodontist. They take up full time post grad diploma course of 3 yrs. You can check this site www.apo.com.ph. for a list of qualified ORTHODONTISTS. Remember orthodontist dont charge 20k or 50k. They charge above 80k kc they are specialists. They don't do other dental procedures.  Orthodontics lang. Parang Cardiologist. Heart concerns lang.

Other Dentist take up short certificate courses in Orthodontics. So they practice orthodontics and gen. dentistry or whatever field. Hindi sila specialist. Walang boards. But they are not called orthodontist. Basic cases lang pwede ihandle. This is the problem kung bakit madaming orthodontist disasters.

Gen Dentist with orthodontic try to handle difficult cases instead of specialist.

I know many people here would get confused. I hope this will also enlighten everyone.

oohh... thanks for that information doc! :-\

yes board certified orthodontists are member of APO. But general dentist who took up certificate courses can practice BASIC ortho din. Check your dentist background kung ok ba and talk to other patients. Usually dentist show their old cases to you to discuss/compare treatment.

If you want a board certified ortho, contact APO or if you want a cheaper treatment, go to UP-PGH. Ortho undergrads look for patients and they charge lower. They are already licensed Dentists who are  undergoing orthodontic course..
