IELTS / TOEFL
« on: May 19, 2010, 11:02:23 pm »
i'm applying for a masteral abroad (europe), one of the requirements is IELTS or TOEFL. now, my question is worth it ba yun IELTS kasi i heard nasa 10k daw yun. parang ang mahal naman. nanghihinayan ako. magagamit ko ba yun sa iba like if i apply for work abroad in case i wont get into the university.

tanong ko na din, pano ba mag-IELTS? short course ba to or exam na agad? sa mga nagtake na how much?

salamat.

hmmm, if it's a requirement sis, parang you have no choice din but to take the exam.. are you asking the review or yung mismong exam if worth it? I already took this exam last year! nakakainis nga ang exam na to kasi di ba.. 2 years lang ang validity! what ba need mong BUN score? 7 and above ba?

it's your choice if you like to enroll sa mga review centers, they will really help you on the techniques..usually, 1 week lang ang mismong course ng review, some offers unlimited review! basic english grammar.

IELTS as you may already know consist of 4 exams, Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.. ang pinakamahirap (according na din sa iba) is Writing and Speaking..

oo nga eh no choice nga but to take the exam if i really wanted to pursue the application. gusto ko lang naman itry kung matatanggap ako dun sa grad school, may weight yun undergrad grade dun kaya medyo kinakabahan din ako baka di pumasok yun grades ko nun college. hehe. kaya nun nalaman ko na requirement yun IELTS sa application, eto napaisip ako kung worth it ba yun 8k something ko for the IELTS. i mean, in case ba na di ako matanggap sa grad school san ko pa ba magagamit yun? like if I applied as an immigrant in canada or australia do i need that? maidadagdag ko din ba sa cv ko na i passed IELTS?

salamat. :)

Of course requirement sa University and of course sa work.

sayang lang ang IELTS kung hindi mo siya gagamitin agad or within its validity period.

I'm currently enrolled in Niner for my review. Kung iisipin English lang diba pero everytime we do exercises or skills enhancement parang ang hirap. Hopefully mapasa ko itong exam na ito.

As mentioned by our other sisses here, you can make use of the English exams if you have plans of migration abroad. Yung IELTS, it's a requirement for immigration to Canada/AU/NZ and other EU countries. Yung TOELF/TOEFL-IBT dito sya sa US ginagamit. :)

hi sis nag niners din ako. crash course nga lang. yung 10 hours lang. luckily i got the scores required ng country na pupuntahan ko. swertehan lang sa interviewer kasi yung iba hindi nagpapasa, yung iba nman 7 lowest na binibigay. i suggest focus on writing. yun pinaka mahirap kasi may format na susundin. sisiw lang yung reading and listening :D

I just finish taking a great IELTS review course in Manila.
The company is POWER IELTS located in Malate next to Manila Doctors on TM Kalaw.
They have great native speakers from England and Australia.
What I appreciated was they first tested me and found out what I needed to prepare for in English.
Also the class sizes are small and available day, night and weekends.
I would really encourage anyone who needs to take the IELTS, to call them.
The number is 567-1783 or 0917-544-2559

From what I heard, if graduate ka ng UP, you don't need to take this na, you'll just have to get a certification letter from UP na lang.

^Really, I'll clarify with my instructor ha.  She's from the Italian Language Department of UP and siya kasi ang nagsabi sa amin nito last week.  I'll update you.

I took TOEFL three years ago. It was really easy. I got 115/120 yata without review.

A bit off topic, but does anyone know of a reputable place in Manila (Pasig, Marikina, Rizal and Mandaluyong area preferably) that offer TESOL certification courses? Someone told me that they're the same places that offer TOEFL but I don't know of any!

Gusto ko lang po sana itanong, dun sa mga nag-take ng IELTS for Canada immigration, gaano po kayo katagal nag-prepare/study for the exams? Mahirap po ba? What are your study techniques (review center, self-study online, buy IELTS book, or hindi na nag-study)?? Thanks.

i dont believe you have to take a week to attend a review for IELTS... if you know your english, and you comprehend well, you can easily pass this test...

there are two kinds of IELTS test - General and Academic... you have to prepare for both, because if by chance you mentioned you have intentions of pursuing further studies abroad, they will make you take the Academic test, which is a bit harder than the general test...

if youre applying for immigration, you need to at least get a 7.0 for each of the 4 areas, esp if youre a professional... you also need a grade of at least 6.5 for each area if you are applying for teaching jobs abroad...

re UP, i dont think theyre exempted from taking the IELTS... they dont deserve to be... :P
