How did you overcome fear of driving?
« on: March 13, 2010, 04:56:08 PM »
I just finished my driving lessons from Smart Driving last March 4. I don't have a non-pro license yet but i'm planning to get one next week. Sa totoo lang, i think i have not learned so much from smart driving. Basic lang talaga-like starting the engine (nung una nga ayaw pa ipa start sa akin, yung instructor ko lagi nagi start), timpla ng gas at clutch, etc.

I think i'm going to learn more by constant practice and that means going on the road na mismo. But just thinking of it gives me the jitters. My husband is away kaya nga napilitan akong mag-aral mag drive. He didn't teach me nung andito pa siya. Wala akong maaasahang sasama sa akin to practice driving. so what can you advise me to overcome this fear?

practice.. its normal to have fears lalo pag nasa road ka na with lots of cars, ganyan din ko before.. why dont you ask someone who knows how to drive to accompany you during the first few days na magddrive ka sa highway? it will boost your confidence knowing na may kasama ka na marunong.. pag may confidence na, carry na yan mag-isa sis :D

^practice...if you can practice alone...i used to practice early morning sa slopes, sa minor roads then moved on to major roads and highways.

before i knew it nakikisingit na ako sa EDSA.

practice lang and prayers...

Hinde pa din ako masyado magaling mag-park but I'm working on it.

Ngayon my driving is a bit lax kase matic yung car namin. I also wanna try driving alone para talagang masanay na ko.
Whatever I want, I get. If I can't, I don't stop TRYING.

i was 16 when i tried to learn. practice-practice sa GMTFM, taguig. maluwag road...sooobra. after awhile, hahaha! nilakasan ang loob sa bottleneck and slopes. the earlier, the better if you're learning to drive.

sis, ganuon talaga pag nag start sa driving. kaba, nerbyos, stomach acids. get someone experienced on driving to be with you. kung baga, laman kalye talaga to the point na pwede sya maki pagbunuan sa harassment ng police o MMDA.

waah ako din natatakot pang lumbas.

our driver thought me how to drive. sa loob lang ako ng subdivision marunong at sa hindi masikip na street nagdadrive.

problem with me is hind ako marunong magshift from high gear to lower gear.i get confused.

just practice and practice until you're used to driving na. the more you drive the more confident you'll get. ;)

I haven't. yet. This friday i'll try to get my non-pro license para makapagpractice ako ng maayos. ;)

Pero lakas ng loob lang yan sis. once you get to know your car, lam mo na paano sya i-drive.  ;)

good luck sa atin mga bagong drivers! ;D

As everyone here has said, practice lang talaga. Regular practice is the best way to deal with it. Even just within your subdivision. Take as long as you want. Then, when you're confident enough, that's when you practice out on major roads.

If you need to drive on a regular route (work, for example), try to practice on that route on an early weekend morning....even during the coming Holy Week, when everyone will be out of town. The traffic will be lighter, so you'll be able to focus more on the feel of the car and shifting gears (if you're driving manual)...and if you do have to face idiot motorcycle/jeepney drivers and jaywalking pedestrians, there will be fewer of them to deal with on a weekend morning. :D

The upcoming months will also be good for practice...fewer cars out, since it's the summer vacation for students.

Thanks sa mga advice!
I will be getting a non-pro license tomorrow. Hopefully, i'll pass both the written and the practical exam. And then, i'll practice driving around our village. Ang hirap talaga ng walang expert driver na magga guide sa akin but i really don't want fear to overcome me. Kasi sayang naman yung pinag-aralan ko at saka i don't like to deprive my kids naman the convenience of not having to commute everytieme may lakad kami.

wala kasi husband ko for a few months kaya wala gamit car

But you have to overcome it sooner or later.

as they say practice makes perfect... yun fear of hanging blues na-overcome ko din sa kaka-practice and of course, pray din that He will always make it easy for me :)  if nuon medyo maalanganin ako, i will put the lights in a hazard mode pra maging cautious din yun mga ibang cars behind me... tiyagaan lang talaga. so what if mamatayan tayo in the middle of the road, di start ulit :) lahat na nagda-drive, nangangapa din naman at first... now, nakikipagsabayan na ako sa tutukan pag traffic. my only concern when i drive is if i'm not familiar with the place and get lost.

right now, i still dont drive alone kahit malapit lang kase i dont have a license pa. my husband is cool naman when i drive and MOST of the time, chill lang sya. Twice lang sya nag-panic mode and nagalit ako sa kanya talaga kase his loud voice didnt help me at all and it made me nervous.
