Nummular Dermatitis
« on: February 24, 2010, 12:56:40 pm »
Tried to look for a thread that's specific to Nummular Eczema/Dermatitis but found none.

Nummular Eczema is also know by other names  such as nummular dermatitis and discoid eczema.

A derma recently diagnosed the itchy rashes on my skin as nummular eczema.  I am getting frustrated cause after the rashes in a specific spot clears, they appear in another. Most are small but recently big ones have appeared, about a little more that an inch in diameter.

I keep my skin moisturized by using gentle non-soap cleansers such as Dove Extra Sensitive, Cetaphil, etc.  and use lotions like Cetaphil and Physiogel.  Still, my skin has not cleared.  The ones that clear up leave dark marks too :(

How do you treat/manage this specific skin condition?

I also have dermatitis.  Sadly, it scarred by legs.  But its slowly clearing up.  Just to keep it clear, i use dove soap (the green, imported one https://ozbo.com/images/T/61120CL.JPG as the local dove soap is not that effective on my skin.  Not this one http://britishonlinesupermarket.com/acatalog/Dove_Soap_100g.jpg).

As lotion, I use Physiogel Lotion.  Its priced @ P800++.  A huge investment but effective.

For face, I use dermablend milk cleaners (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oIa1qR9Mc1Q/SKJmDXbm2II/AAAAAAAAARU/x27uIW7fQWo/s400/dermablend.jpg) since I find this effective than cetaphil.  Dermablend milk cleanser is not soap based so its ideal to those with dry skin.  I bought mine @ 150 in watsons.

But now, I am trying Physiogel Cleanser since I am contented with the lotion of the same brand.  https://www.mypharmacy.com.sg/ProductImages/WV/998210613.jpg

I do hope we get rid of our dermatitis as I can no longer wear shorts due to the scars brought about by the previous itching. Am hoping it will clear up as soon as possible as its already summertime!:)

hi xtine.  i use physiogel too and dove extra sensitive. i'll check out dermablend.  at night pala i use olive olive oil instead of lotion.

i had 5 big ones and after the redness subsided, i was left with brown marks.  very frustrating kasi nakikita ko cya lagi.  embarrassing also when i wear dresses and they get exposed.  they're on my legs and seveal smaller ones on my body. i don't want it to dictate naman my choices in clothes so sometimes, i try to not be conscious about it.  sis, matagal ba bago bumalik sa dati yung skin?

^Medyo.  ganyan din sa akin, there was a time, 3 years ako hindi makapagshorts.  Then when the scars eventually cleared up, one year lang.  Bumalik nanaman yung flaking and scarring.  So right now, I'm still waiting for it to clear up again.  Notice ko lang na on the same spots nag eerupt yung dermatitis. :(  Lapit pa naman ng summer outing ko! :(

My time lang na sobrang kati then makakamot ko ayun magform na siya ng peklat.. Pag mapa consult ba sa derma may chance na mawala to? Thanks for the input

hi sis.  according the derma i consulted and the medical sites i visited, there is no known real cause but they tend to occur in people with dry skin.  the best thing to do is keep the skin well moisturized.  no scrubs, no warm baths, and no scratching because scratching or any break in the skin may lead to it  :(  i still have the marks.  i have been applying kojic cream but they are still there.. >:(

hi sisses!

just want to share also my experience during those years im suffering from nummular eczema, at first i thought its bulutong, then, scabies (as per the dermatologist in dermclinic). i started having this when I was 20 y.o. and now im 27 and still having this (not anymore nummular eczema) problem on my skin.

i was treated by a derma in St. Lukes in QC, sobrang ok naman gamot kaso mejo pricey then after this derma, i tried a derma in The Medical City, until now I still make my check-ups with this dermatologist.

ok na nummular eczema ko, my problem now is the side effect of having nummular eczema is you'll be prone on having keratosis pilaris or (KP), i have this now. i think mas ok pa nummular eczema kc yung itsura is at least parang coin and hindi scattered sa legs ko unlike sa KP na ang dami. pero when it comes to medicine, at least ok for long-term use ang sa KP unlike sa NE na puro with steroid.

hay, sana gumaling na tayong lahat, as per my dermatologists, the cause of having this is still unknown and there is still no cure for this, only prevention. we just have to keep our skin moisturized, eh sobrang tamad pa naman ako mag-lotion especially pag mainit tsaka ang hirap maghanap ng lotion na hindi ako mangangati or hindi makakapagpa-trigger ng sakit ko.

right now, im using nivea whitening lotion, the pink one. then sa soap, paiba-iba kasi trial and error din ako kung san ako hindi mangangati.

during the peak of my NE, i used cetaphil lotion, cetaphil soap, and cetaphil cleanser. hay..super pricey ng mga yan, mas mahal pa sa gamot.. =(

God bless sisses!

sisses, correction - warm water is okay. hot baths are not.   i alternately use virgin coconut oil and olive oil at night instead of physiogel to cut costs. this routine, so far, helped make my skin feel moisturised.  but after my morning baths, i use physiogel. i just pat dry with a towel then apply physiogel while still damp. if there's more time, i fan-dry myself.  works better.

i get concerned whenever small bumps and blister-like marks appear cause that'w how my big ones started.  pag meron, kahit maliit, i apply diprolene right away.

^ i have also a scalp psoriasis. 2007 i thought its a simple dundruff lang, so i used anti- dandruff shampoo lang di ako nag pa check -up sa derma. I tried so many anti dandruff but all of them are not working. Pinabayaan ko na lang. Nag pa check-up na ko sa derma until the doctor told me its a psoriasis, I am really shocked kasi alam ko ang P ay di na nagagamot kahit ang dermatologist ay binigyan ako ng cream like clobetasol, salicylic acid and coal tar. pero lagi parin bumabalik ang P ko sa scalp  :'(   Papunta pa nman ako ng Canada next month.  guys please help   :(

^ i recall reading about two types of dandruff and they have different treatments.  one way to tell one from the other is by their color.  one is yellow and the other is white.  try to search on the net or maybe even here in GT.  maybe there's a thread specific to your concern :)

Try nyo to mga sis: http://www.takeherb.com/product.asp?PID=4713

available sya sa Healthy Options, Php 239.00, baka lang kase mahiyangan nyo din. Goodluck sa atin mga sisses...

^ nope, no kids sis.  Perhaps the link between motherhood and NE is that mommies tend to attend to the kids more so they neglect some of the things they used to do for themselves like applying lotion and stuff?
