Stye (in tagalog: Kuliti)
« on: February 02, 2010, 11:04:28 AM »
My 3.5 yr old daughter developed a stye (kuliti) on the upper eyelid of her left eye..nagsimula ng maliit then namaga kala nga namin kagat ng ipis. that was Jan. 1 pa! Hanggang lumaki at bumilog (parang small pea size), we brought her to pedia after a week who prescribed antibiotics, after another week hindi pa din nawala..nirefer kami sa ophthalmologist who prescribed Tobradex (ointment for the eye), we're asked to go back after a week if hindi pa din daw nawala, i-schedule na yung incision /surgery.. eh natatakot ako.. isa pa..ise-sedate sya para magawa yun. And as far as i know, ang kuliti nawawala naman ng kusa...

my bf had a chalazion surgically removed. he looked like he was perpetually winking for about a month before he had it done. :) at first, ganun din -- he was prescribed antibiotics, and when those didn't make it go away, he had it incised. i think it cost about 2.5k (not 100% sure about that though). he was given local anesthesia, and he had an eyepatch on for a couple of days after. wala namang visible na sugat afterwards. :)

^oh thanks for the reply.. and the idea sa price..kahit di ka sure atleast medyo gumaan loob ko, kasi naman nabasa ko sa forums abroad $160 daw. anyway, i really hope the eyepatch or wound will be for a couple of days lang.. kasi ang hirap sa bata yung may ginagamot kang sugat..lalo na sa anak ko super active and strong magpupumiglas talaga pag ayaw nya ayaw nya

i confirmed with him, sis, and it was P2500. :) and yup, for a couple of days lang talaga yung eyepatch -- although granted, a 24 year old guy is a lot less active than a 3.5 year old girl. :D he wasn't allowed to wet it for a day. aside from that though, he didn't encounter any other hassle.

my youngest daughter experienced having stye also. pabalik balik nga. if gagaling na yun other eye, chances are lilipat naman sa kabila after a month. we had consulted also an ophthalmologist & suggested a surgery but her pedia didn't agree on the idea kasi she was only about 4yrs old during that time...

anyways, we listened to her pedia na to just observe it muna as eventually daw, mawawala din naman paglumaki na siya. so far, nagka-stye lang ulit siya last year (she's now 6) but di masyadong maga compared before & mga 2days lang, nawala na agad.

i also noticed that if she used J & J shampoo or soap, nagkakakuliti siya. it maybe caused also of an allergy to a certain substance... sana di na talaga bumalik pa. kasi kawawa na eyes niya kasi nagkaroon na tuloy scar sa may eyelid :(

Hindi rin namin pinapa-incise pa, kasi so far, lumiit na! ngayon halos pawala na..at parang nagd-dry na yung skin around it (parang puputok na), sana talaga tuluyan na mawala. ayoko talaga ipasurgery eh.  Im just cautious on using the ointment prescribed TOBRADEX, kasi alam ko steroidal yun, and as we all know, masama ang sobrang pag-gamit ng ganon.

^sis, my daughter is also using J&J shampoo.. grabe naman kakabili ko lang ng 1 big bottle kahapon! sana naman hindi yun ang culprit (or di sya allergic dun).

my mom had a big one too that lasted for more than a month too last year. It started out as a small stye. As in pinpoint lang and i told her to dispose of her eye makeup and avoid using eye makeup while she had it. O ayun, matigas ulo. Lumaki until she could barely keep her eye open. dapat mag u-undergo din ng excision and drainage but then dinaan muna sa antibiotics and warm compress. In a week nawala, kasi sa sobrang takot niya nakinig.

Mga sis,if pansin niyo na for ex. Yung j&j shampoo and likely cause. Stop using it na muna, switch brands. Take note of the products or items that get in touch with the area. Kelangan din ng good hygiene. My mom oftentimes sleep with eye makeup on. madaling araw bigla magigising and then dun palang maghilamos. For kids naman it could also be na dirty ang hands tapos madalas kamutin ang eye area. Be careful nalang and now uso din and sore eyes. Hehe OT na pero yun, just wanted to share.

I think I have chalazion.

I've been using warm compress since yesterday. I'm afraid to go to my opthalmologist because I'm quite sure she will suggest surgery, and takot ako to undergo eye surgery kasi diba pag ganon you're awake, di mo lang naffeel yung pain but you feel the tools moving through your eyes.

Hindi pa naman nagwworsen, and sa umaga lang siya mukhang maga pag bagong gising pero after a few hours di na halata. Anong antibiotics ba ang recommended? Oral ba ito or drops?

My daughter had one (sa loob) sobrang tagal. Ilang buwan din. Kala namin kung ano lang. Nung kinuha na namin baby namin (from province) ilang weeks naging red na sya parang lalabas/puputok na. Dati kasi wala lang parang bukol lang minsan nawawala. But that time nag red na talaga kaya pina check up na namin. Kuliti nga daw binigyan ng antibiotics. Ayun after a week pumutok na sya and nawala eventually. However from then pabalik balik na sya. Pag nawala, after months babalik ulit. Ngayon meron na naman.. Nagkascar na nga sa eyelid ng baby ko.. Shes 3 now. nagstart yun nung 1+ sya.
