hi sis, GERD is gastro-esophageal reflux, meaning un acids ng stomach mo is umaakyat instead of bumababa sa stomach or intestinal mucosa mo. Omeprazole un isa sa mga medications for GERD, proton-pump inhibitor un na ang purpose is pababain [textspeak!] acid ng stomach mo instead of having it go up. For you to lessen the pain/any uncomfortable feeling, avoid sodas and caffeine muna.

I have this last 2008. What happen if we have this is that the splintcher of our stomach [textspeak!]which opens and then close everytime we eat, becomes weak and doesn't close properly, tendency is the acid in our stomach refluxes. This also causes peptic ulcer. I was prescribed nexium by my gastro, according to my research in internet and forums we must take it only at the maximum of 2 moths, it is also a proton pump inhibitor meaning it decreases the releas of our body acids, but we need this acid to digest the food that we eat and too much of ppi can also be disadvantageous. It was a lot of sacrifice because if you really want to  cure the gerd you have to avoid those acidic foods... fruits, chocolates, full cream milk, caffeinated foods, oily foods and the like. I also avoid pork and beef I only eat grilled chicken, fish and vegetables. Repolyo and banana are very good, it helps to heal ulceration. Eat in moderation, and observe the food that triggers the diseas and avoid this for a while. Always have food or crackers to bite whenever you feel hungry.

2008 din ako nagkaron. nagmemeds lang ako pag may symptoms as advised by doctor. feb 2009, i was on omeprazole for 2 weeks. tapos naging ok na ulit sya. stress ang nagttrigger ng gerd ko based on my observation na rin.

tapos recently lang, i had episodes of palpitations, tapos sobrang mahirap huminga, i feel so tired din palagi. lahat ng tests ko normal. and it turned out, my gerd is acting up again. i'll be on meds again. but this time for a month na. aciphex/pariet ako ngayon, lumipat kase ako ng internist. tapos i'm taking ganaton (itopride) din 30 mins before meal, for two weeks naman ito. every week pinapabalik ako ng doctor for check-up. binawalan nya din ako coffee, iced tea, soft drinks, dairy products, maaasim, maanghang, etc..

2 weeks na ko on meds ngayon, so far umo-ok na 'yung feeling ko. sobrang uncomfortable lang talaga ng feeling pag sumusumpong sya and ampait pait lagi ng lasa ko.

Did you have an upper endoscopy?  Ako naman nagkakaroon ng mild stomach pains and nag start sya last Sept. burp din ako ng burp.  Nagpatingin ako sa internist and after an abdominal exam, sinabihan agad ako na may GERD daw ako. Pantoloc, PPI din tapos Mucosta tapos Motilium, di ako convince kasi ang alam ko pag may GERD ka one of the primary symptoms is heartburn and malalaman lang pag may GERD ka thru upper endoscopy.  Nagpatingin na ako sa Gastroenterologist na this month, did a whole abdomen ultrasound to confirm di galing  abdominal pain ko sa ibang organs. Advise nya muna sa akin is under observation muna ako and pag lumala stomach pain ko, endscopy na. Do you guys feel light-headed minsan?  I am glad may nag start ng topic na ito, hinahanap ko to.

^never pa ko nirefer for endoscopy sis. everytime na may symptoms ako na nararamdaman, they will put me on meds for 2 weeks. and this time, for 1 month na. and then after ko magmeds, umo-ok naman ang pakiramdam ko. palagi din ako may dalang antacid. nabasa ko din through my research na endoscopy, most of the time will not help in the diagnosis of gerd kase most patients na may symptoms ng reflux is normal ang esophagus.

sis hindi ka ba nagha-heartburn? kase possible na hindi mo nalang nadidistinguish ang heart burn kung nahihirapan ka din huminga. ganun kase ako last time, 1 week akong hirap na hirap huminga with palpitations, tremors, feeling weak. i was so afraid then. akala ko something is wrong with my heart na. all my tests were normal naman, was even test for hyperthyroidism pero normal pa din naman. inis na inis ako that time kase hirap na hirap na ko huminga tapos sasabihin lang sayo ng doctor, "normal naman". nagpa-er pa nga ako, tas wala din silang magawa. never ko naisip noon na possible na related sya with gerd. i was referred by ER sa internist. ang sabi saken ng internist, stress lang daw. pero hindi ako satisfied sa sinabi nya. i don't like the idea na sasabihin ng doctor na normal naman lahat and stress lang pero sobrang sama naman ng pakiramdam mo. so when i got home, mega-research ako. tapos naisip ko bigla iresearch kung connected ba ang gerd ko sa mga symptoms na nararamdaman ko that time. and it turned out, related nga based sa mga nabasa ko. so bumalik ako sa doctor. tapos sinabi ko lahat ng nabasa ko, and then kinonfirm nya na dahil nga daw sa gerd ko un. so she put me on meds for 1 month maintenance.

as for light-headedness sis, it can still be related with gerd. kase gerd can affect our heartbeats at times to the point of being light-headed. and if your on meds sis, possible na side-effect din sya ng meds.

sobrang hirap and very tricky, confusing at the same time ng sakit na to. andami kaseng symptoms na in a way or another e pwede na related sa ibang sakit. so ang ginagawa ko ngayon, everytime na may mararamdaman ako, research ako agad if related with my gerd.

You're right about that sis, mahirap talaga na may kakaiba ka nang nararamdaman and sasabihin lang sa iyo normal naman results mo.  Last year bigla na lang akong na light-headed as in para na akong tutumba at dinala na ako sa er pero wala rin nagawa.  I already consulted a cardiologist, ok naman daw heart ko, then bigla na lang akong nahihirapang huminga, I know If I have an asthma attack but this time it was different. Mahirap talaga ang GERD, I hope you feel better soon.

"Shortness of breath is a direct result of stomach acid in the esophagus. As the stomach acid is regurgitated into the espohagus, the acid stimulates the nerves in the lower end of the esophagus, causing muscles to contract. This contraction in turn causes small airways to constrict, which causes the feeling of breathlessness. The sensation worsens at night because when the body is in a prone position, it is easier for stomach acids to reflux into the esophagus. In some cases, an excess amount of acid in the esophagus may spill into the lungs, leading to a tightening of the airways and shortness of breath. The stress felt by people with acid reflux may also contribute to shortness of breath. However, this is less a function of the condition than the psychological outlook of the individual."

tapos mas ok daw na you sleep on your left. sis pano ang stomach pains mo? cramps? mapait din ba panlasa mo minsan? burp din ako ng burp.

haay sana maging ok na tayo. usually kase gerd is life-long daw. nakakahinayang din kase gumastos for meds. sis how much ang omeprazole?

Thanks sa info. sis actually when I was researching what can cause shortness of breath before, palaging lumalabas ang GERD pero I dismissed it kasi di pa sumasakit tyan ko at that time.  Mahirap i-explain ang stomach pains ko sis.  Sometimes cramping, sumasakit din ribs ko, usually upper part ng abdomen masakit but other times di ko na ma-pinpoint.  How's your bowel movement pala, any changes? Yund dr. ko mabait, very practical.  Sabi nya sa akin kung may certain food na mag-trigger ng sakit sa tyan, food vacation muna dito for 2 weeks and regarding sa mga caffeine pwede pa-konti konti.  So for now, observe lang muna tyan ko, Omeprazole na Risek ang brand is only 31 pesos kaya masaya ako unlike before na Pantoloc which is 90 pesos plus may Mucosta at Motilium pa. Hope you feel better soon, I am really glad na I can talk to you about this, mahirap kasi minsan kausapin yung mga tao regarding this kung di nila nararamdaman ang nararamdaman natin.

And around how much?

Pantoloc is very effective because it's a proton pump inhibitor, mahal nga lang.  Toridon naman is much cheaper than Motilium.  That was what the first doctor prescribed me plus Mucosta to protect the lining.  Very effective sila sa GERD, ako kasi pumunta na rin ako sa Makati Med. to have a second opinion kung may GERD nga ako.  I have no symptoms kasi of heartburn, burp lang ng burp and masakit tyan.  Sabi kasi ng dr. ko sa Makati Med. di muna nya gagawin ang endoscopy sa akin, so Omeprazole muna ako as needed, ang laki ng mura sa Veterans.  By the way, who is your dr. sa Makati Med.?  Thanks sa price info. sis

yes i have it. i used to take maalox to relieve my pain.
