change of career (rant)
« on: October 12, 2009, 11:40:34 AM »
To mods: padelete po if may same topic na.

Have you ever felt guys na you are so burnt out with what you're doing but you can't stop because you need it?

I've been working in call center for quite a while, ilang years na din..and sa years na yun i've always dragged myself to work as in everyday. i never liked the job, yung stress and the such but i got no choice kasi this is where i get my breads to support my family and me.

i want to change my career, i don't care if it's as stressful as this one so long as i enjoy what i'm doing. pero i can't, it's hard because first off,i did not complete college. admit it, it's hard to be choosy with your career if you don't have a diploma to brag about. so i'm stuck. and i'm tired.

hay...i feel the same way......worked in call center for god knows when..then I went abroad...work for 1.5 years in a real estate company then....nagkaroon ng recession...tapos ngayon eto na nasa call center nanaman. hayyyyy......minsan sa calls ko nasusuka na ko...seryosos...sukang suka na ko but I dont want to entertain this idea because hirap ng work dito now. So i guess tiis tiis muna.

sis pumpkin13, can't you continue your studies so you can get your diploma? this will widen your career arena... like you can't work abroad without a diploma, right?! and may ibang jobs that only require that you finish a 4-year course... then they will train you na lang.
you can also enroll yourself in some specialized skill classes or attend trainings kung offered in your company (like SAP)...
otherwise, just appreciate the fact that you do not bring home your work - di mo na pino-problema once you time out! and you can enrich your social life rin so that there's something to look forward to once work is over. allot some time so you can de-stress (spa, salon, etc) or take a vacation (but one where you'll feel rested)...
it's natural to feel this way... i get sick of sitting in front of the computer for 10 hours tapos bawal pa kami mag-internet and chat... but come payday, i reward myself ;)

try to get trainings in other fields. use that as stepping stone to change careers.

or look at your hobbies and other interest. maybe you can look for a career that involves the things that makes you happy.
Avoiding the phrase “I don’t have time...”, will soon help you to realize that you do have the time needed for just about anything you choose to accomplish in life.  --- Bo Bennett

^^I wish i could sis. the reason why i left school is because i needed to work to support myself and my family. it's been so long since the last time i stepped sa school.
i'm so tired to the point na iniiyakan ko na ang ginagawa ko.but i need it.kaya siguro palipat lipat ako ng company. i thought i was looking for a better company palagi but i guess there is no better or best for someone na hindi naman talaga masaya at hindi gusto ang ginagawa nya. :-\

i used to drag myself to work, as in naiiyak pa ko nun bago ko pumasok. i hate the environment, the boss, the job - everything! so nagresign ako kahit i havent gain enough experience at kahit wala pa kong malilipatan. bad move. it took me 2 months bago makahanap ulit ng work.

so yun, bago ka umalis, hanap muna ng kapalit. meron yan, may back office jobs for you lalo na matagal ka na sa industry.

oh, you're also the girl na may trust issues with bf.

I used to feel the same way when I was still part of the call center/BPO world for 5 straight years. And then during those times, I lost my interest little by little. Although, during the last few years I was just doing email support. Call center job is very stressful, at least for me. But it was fun, too.

Then I realized, I don't wanna do this for the rest of my life. This is not what I enjoy. I want a different arena, which would later on be in the writing field. So there, I took the plunge and left the call center industry for good. Now I can truly say that I enjoy what I'm doing.

With that said, I guess you should find your passion and go after it. Find a passion-related job so you won't feel like working at all.

Now with regard to your studies, continue it no matter what happens. You may prioritize your family first but when you find time and means, go back to school. It's never too late to learn--and age is just a number. Hehe.

I don't know if this will make you feel better or what. Even though i finished college education, I plan on going back to school to get a second degree, which is related to writing--my passion--my profession. And I'm like what, in my late 20s already. So, don't fret. HTH. ;)

we're in the same boat. i'm doing back ofc work right now. but it is still the same. kasi may 20% outbound calls kami. right now, i'm trying to finish my masters, i'm hoping that next year i could get another job that's more interesting and rewarding financially.

pumpkin13, you were in 4th yr college in up when you stopped. kahit mahirap yung 'special problem' nyo baka pwedeng pilitin mo yug sarili mong tapusin. or kung ayaw mo na talaga, mag shift ka kaya. pwede ka pa naman mag shift unless may 'no shifting policy' yung college mo. in my case i wasn't able to shift to another course due to that policy. pinilit ko na lang tapusin kahit ayaw ko na.

Thank you sa mga responses mga sisses. naiiyak tuloy ako. life is really hard. okay lang sana kung ako lang eh, kaso there are other people na umaasa sakin. and i really, really want to go back to school, maybe start from scratch kaso i am so tired of the cc industry na parang hindi ko na kayang pag aralin ang sarili ko.

^^Sis Layla, i love writing din. But I don't know anything about it as a job. Gusto ko lang magsulat ng kung ano-ano. I even wrote a blog about call center, how i started to love it, only to realize na yung mga tao lang ang gusto ko but the job itself, i don;t like it anymore.

sorry po sa mga rants ko.no one would hear me out kasi. :-[

Ako naman 1yr pa lang since i started working. Pero i know this is not the type of work that i'd like to do for a long time. Kaya eto nag eexplore ng opportunities. I attend trainings that i know would help to widen yung scope ng career..  Good luck sis :)

^^good luck, sis... hopefully maka-transfer ka! my sister is your age and has been working in a callcenter since she graduated rin... palipat-lipat rin siya ng company but she really prefers normal working hours so mas tumatagal siya pag ganun. pansin ko binabarkada nya yung officemates nya and masyadong magimik! pero i guess that keeps her going... kung hindi man yung work mismo, the people in the workplace...

^yes sis, with the people wala ko problema.i've also transferred several times and yung mga tao lang yung nakakapagpatagal sakin sa isang company.but then, just recently naramdaman ko yun sobrang burnt out na kahit yung mga friends ko sa work can't make me feel otherwise.

sis, ano hilig mo? ano tingin mo strengths mo? :) capitalize on that. hindi madali mag-stay sa isang job na hindi ka na happy... to the point na iniiyakan mo na work mo.

pinalaki karamihan sa atin into thinking that if we finish school, get good grades, we can land a good job. while this is true for the majority, this is not always the case. don't let the lack of a degree hinder your dreams/happiness. :) i believe you'll eventually find work that you love and enjoy doing.

and don't forget to ask for His guidance always. hugs to you. :D
