When Your Helper Gets Sick...
« on: September 03, 2009, 12:33:17 am »
Nagreklamo maid namin kahapon na hirap sha huminga so we sent her to the village health center for a check-up. Libre naman dun. Tapos may reseta yung doctor. I decided to reimburse her for the meds. Whek! Tama?  ???

I think it all depends sa employer and sa helper. Like if the helper naman is worthy for that like she's masipag, initiative, matiyaga, hindi mareklamo, why not, diba?!  I think this is also a way of motivating them to work hard for you and tumagal. You can give it as a benifit for her.  Just make sure that you both have an agreement na she will work for you very well and tatagal siya kasi you invested to her.

Pero ang mahirap niyan if the helper is not fit-to-work. Lugi ka pag ikaw ang magsho-shoulder ng expenses for her meds.  Better know if she's fit-to-work or not.

Hope this helps.  :)

I pay for medical expenses, from doctor fees, to lab or whatever tests, to meds.

Before a maid gets into my house... I have her  tested to be sure.. walang TB, walang hepa walang worms, walang ganito ganyan.  Mahirap kasi at baka contagious; or while working for me na eh sabihin sa akin sya nang ka ganito ganyang diprensya.

But it cannot be helped, people do get sick.  Colds, etc. etc. heaven forbid, dengue!
I pay for it all... even pregnancies.
(I also give cash for deliveries... but bye-bye na by the 3rd,4th or 5th month.

Well, suerte nila, malas ko -- something like that.  Well, kasi as members of the household staff, they are under our protection... so I pay for medical requirements, beginning to end.

Now, kung katulad doon sa isang thread.. si helper nag DIY facial peel and nasunog her face, and there are derma expenses and meds... aba, gastos nya na yon.
Or, sa kaka-date eh nagka STD -- teka, I will show you the door.  Feel ko madumi.  Wala ka pang condom?  At baka kung ano na yan.
PMS meds, gastos na ng helpers yan, kasi I give P500/helper/month grocery allowance.

last time our maid got sick, we paid for his meds, lab fees and doctors fee. maliit lang naman kasi yung sweldo nya kaya dapat lang na kami na sumagot nun since he lives w/ us.

right now, i make it a point to buy him vitamins para di sya maging sakitin. kasi nung huling bese sya nag kasakit nahawa ako sa pneumonia nya. our maid is a college freshman. sa school sya nahawa ng sakit nya. kaya kinukulit ko syang mag vitamins palagi para may defense naman sya kahit papaano.

yes.

i had a maid that had tb pala.  she didn't know daw and st*pid me for not having her checked when we got her.  we just found out when my son got primary complex and i had our maids xrayed.  we paid for meds and checkups, we also gave her an allowance while she recuperated cos we had to send her home.  unfortunately, she didn't take her meds religiously kaya she never recovered.  we didn't have a choice but to let her go.

another yaya naman got chicken pox from my younger son(she takes care of my eldest) and we paid for her meds din and gave her an allowance. nakakainis lang cos she demanded to be paid for the days that she was sick.  sick leave daw yun. duh.  eh we had to hire a temp maid to take care of my son while she was sick tapos pa, she's not naman the yaya of my son who got the chicken pox eh. the yaya nga didn't get sick kaya nagtataka kami but still i believe we were fair.

now whenever our yayas get sick with coughs and colds we really buy them meds kasi baka din mahawa yung kids ko.  we also give them vitamins.

i do.

four months pa lang yung yaya ng eldest ko but i can say i like her performance. isang buwan pa lang sya samin i observed na sakitin sya. sa ngipin, sa tyan, hiluhin pa sa byahe, sa ulo, at may hyperthyroidism (which needs maintenance meds).

since i like her, ako sumasagot sa dental at medical check up nya. i told her and my other yaya (who's her niece) that if it's a one-time medication, i can pay. same with common sickness meds like those for fever, flu, headache, toothache, stomachache, etc.

but dun sa maintenance meds nya, i can have it subsidized like half of the amount per month. kasi even without being employed with us, she would still need to buy those meds. siguro that's fair enough kasi parang dagdag na yun sa monthly sweldo nya.

based on my research, di naman contagious ang hyperthyroidism. di naman sya maarte and she always tries to perform well kaya i decided to keep her... for the time being.

yes, but so far, viral infections lang naman ang nagiging sakit ng yaya. hoepfully, nothing worse than that kasi ang hirap din pag may sakit, baka may mahawa sa bahay.

Thanks for the replies sisses! Pina-xray and ecg namin yung maid namin. sabi ng doctor may enlarged heart daw sha. We all go out during the day. Kapag biglang inatake yun habang wala kami, maya kami pa managot. Mahirap na.

normally i do. but this accident my yaya had recently, i only covered her antibiotic (generic so mura lang) and deducted the cost for her anti-tetanus fr her salary. nakakainis kasi hindi nag-iisip.

the maids in the house made a make-shift alambre sampayan inside their room. matagal na pala daw sumasabit-sabit yung buhok nila sa alambre, but they never thought of removing it. one day, sumabit ear ni yaya. as in pierce through yung alambre. since it was late at night, we just contained the bleeding and gave her something for the pain

the following day, i had to bring my daughter to the office bec of our halloween party so kasama din si yaya. i brought yaya to our clinic so the doc can see the wound on the ear. sabi ni doc need daw ng anti-tetanus shot. since i couldnt bring her to hospital i asked if possible ba to just buy the meds fr mercury then pa-shot ko na lang sa company nurse. di daw puwede since she needs to take the allergy test first.

i asked around for the nearest hospital to our office. meron and only a jeepney ride away but since yaya is mali-mali plus not familiar with the area, i told her to get a cab na lang. anyway it was only Php50 one way.

after an hour, bumalik. the ER nurse was asking daw for a doctor's order. so bumalik kami sa clinic to ask for one.

before she left, i repeated again the doctor's instruction (to get an allergy test first) then instructed her to come back immediately since no one will look after my daughter and i havent done any work. an hour after bumalik siya. our convo went like this:

me: so magkano inabot?
yaya: Php300
me: so Php400 lahat kasama na yung taxi mo?

by this point i wanted to strangle her. so i told her "anong gusto mo ako sasaksak nito sa yo?". so pinabalik ko siya sa hospital.

an hour after, bumalik siya. napa-shot na daw niya. since i got so busy, hindi ko inusisa what happened til we went home.

me: so magkano inabot?

Yes, we do.

For instance, our former maid had DENGUE. Even if she got it during her day-off,  we  still paid her hospital bills (naka semi-private pa that time)& PF of the attending doctor (pre, during & post consultations).

Just recently, we hired a helper from Dumaguete. A day after her arrival, her left foot got swollen. She was diagnosed to have Cellulitis (inflammation due to bacteria infection) and is currently prescribed to take antibiotics and antibacterial meds.
She was also advised to have FBS, so, we covered all her medical expenses.  Good thing, TravelSure was included in her plane fare, so, hopefully, we could reimburse all her medical expenses. As the saying goes, what goes around, comes around. ;)

Yes, we do.  :)
We always tell them that if they don't feel well, they should tell us right away so that they can be checked up and given meds. We also spend for their vaccines (yearly flu vaccines).

yes we do.

sa sobrang mahal ng consultation pa lang dito baka maloka ang maid namin kung sya magbabayad. pero salamat sa Dyos at sa 2 years nya with us, the most she had was cough at dahil nahawaan lang sya ng daughter ko. we also gave her Multi vitamins before but my MIL said to stop na lang kasi sobrang naging magana sya sa pagkain. even sya nagtataka at lagi syang gutom. so Vits C na lang. Bawal kasi talaga sya magkasakit and she knows that.

We've never had a maid naman who had a serious illness. Usually, common cough, colds, and flu lang. We shoulder the medicine kase kadalasan they send all their money to their family kaya walang halos matira sa kanila. Napansin namin yan sa isang maid namin before na halos 1 week na may fever yun pala hinde makabili ng medicine and nahihiya lang magsabe.
Whatever I want, I get. If I can't, I don't stop TRYING.
