Blogs - A Writer’s Guilty Pleasure

Filed under: Ramblings — Emma Cerise @ 11:54 am

I’ve always been guilty of being elitista-obscurista… And though I may not be as judgmental as others with bandwagon issues (in that at least I try something before I diss it), I’ve never really taken blogging and the whole livejournal subculture seriously.

Exhibit A:
Me: “Really? You’re a writer? Where can I see your work?”
Someone: “Oh check out my blog at poser.blogspot.com”
Me: (to self, not spoken out loud) “Pffffft….you’re a writer coz you’re a blogger? *put snarky mental snicker here*”

There are too many idiots as it is who get published in “proper” media of the written word like newspapers and magazines. And “bloggers”…gawd, to me they were the worst of poseurs coz, hell, they’d get published with no editorial process whatsoever (all they’d need was their url to get passed on). Don’t get me wrong, I actually used to have a personal blog. But then the blog boom began, and suddenly everyone was a blogger. Just like how everyone’s now a writer.

Goodbye, Davao!

Filed under: Out of Town — Tisha Alvarez @ 10:21 am

We’re at the airport, waiting to board, and I’m feeling kind of sick. We ate so much these past three days and I am hating the fact that I haven’t worked out at all this week. We were able to squeeze in a short trip to Paradise Island this morning, and my grand plan was to jog on the shore. But since it was high tide, there was no shoreline to speak of. I also wanted to kayak, but for some reason, that plan didn’t push through either.

Davao Day Two

Filed under: My Week So Far, Out of Town — Tisha Alvarez @ 6:35 pm

A sleepy hullo from Davao!

We just came from a nearby spa called Ayurveda (Mabini cor. Avancena Street) and I’m feeling totally relaxed. I finally got a hot stone massage–something I’ve been longing to try for ages–and it just set me back P225! Can you say “muy cheapo”? Everything was 25% off, but even at full price, it still would’ve come out much cheaper than a Manila massage. My other companions got regular full-body massages at less than P200, and another got one with two masseuses for just P260. Ooh, that’s something I’d like to try, two pairs of hands kneading all the knots away!

Hullo from Davao City!

Filed under: Out of Town — Tisha Alvarez @ 7:30 pm

Mabuhay!

I am blogging live from the beautiful city of Davao! It’s my first time ever here–in fact, it’s my first time ever in Mindanao so yay! It took me a while to find this coffee shop with free wireless internet access though–I had to walk around aimlessly from our little hotel, with about five people pointing me to five different directions! Lucky I found the place before dark.

First impressions: Davao has got a pretty nice airport, it’s really clean, and it’s surprisingly warm! I bought a jacket thinking it would be as chilly as Manila has been lately (freakish weather)–forgetting that this area is closer to the equator. Apparently, in Davao, the sun is merciless come March, and typhoon season never comes.

Somebody Save Me

Filed under: Spotted — Tisha Alvarez @ 10:55 am

I was in the Visayas Ave. area when this sign caught my eye…

In case you can’t read the text, the sign is for SHOEperman, a shoe and bag repair shop. The fine print says, “I will HEEL you. I will save your SOLE. I will even DYE for you.” It had me in, eherm, stitches. Even without a broken shoe, I wanted to visit them!

Busy, Busy, Busy

Filed under: My Week So Far — Tisha Alvarez @ 1:21 pm

I’ve got this work-related trip next week, and while I was looking forward to it when it was first planned, I’m just feeling so stressed now! Since we’ll be gone for three whole days, we’ve had to cram a lot of work into the days before we leave, and a lot of other things had to be pushed to when we get back. Yesterday, I had a 12-hour day, and today was just filled with shoots, pullouts, finalizing reservations, encashing checks, and other non-fun stuff that comes with traveling.

Now Showing: 10,000 BC

Filed under: My Week So Far, Entertainment — Tisha Alvarez @ 10:27 am

Spoiler alert!

For a movie with so much promise, for one that was supposed to be an awe-inspiring adventure, 10,000 BC was, to be honest, kind of dragging. (I was tempted to name this post “10,000 B-Zzzz” but it wasn’t that bad.)
