Song of the Moment
I am so lovin’ Britney’s “Toy Soldier.” I don’t think it’s been released yet, but it’s from her Blackout album. I first heard it in dance class and didn’t even realize it was Brit. You can listen to it here. Ellen Degeneres likewise loves this song–you can see her dancing to it here.
I must admit, I am a Britney fan, and I’m longing for the day when she could get her act together and be the performer she once was. People can say what they want to say about her voice or whatever (one of my professors described it as “boses ipis“), but you can’t deny that she was once a powerful presence onstage. Just think back to all her pre-”Gimme More” MTV VMA performances and you’ll have to agree: Her first one in 1999 with N*Sync was just OK, but after that you have her “Oops I Did It Again” performance in a barely-there outfit; her “Slave for You” number, where she slithered onstage with that gigantic snake on her shoulders; and the one with Madonna. Note that she shared the stage with Christina Aguilera (a much better singer), who also kissed Madonna–but the lip-lock that got the attention was the one between Brit and Madonna.
Let’s hope Daddy Spears would be able to talk some sense into his little girl. The stage misses her.
