Disc Infected
Hooray for weekends when I get to play disc twice! Played with MC2 Friday night, and can I just say they are quite hardcore! I barely sat during two hours of play. It was cool though because I really felt like I got a good workout, and I had a relatively OK game. I scored a few points (we had some great handlers on my team) and had a block and maybe an assist or two. So yay! At some point though, the other team had more guys than girls, so they put a guy on me. I felt like the dudes guarding me weren’t going all out though, for fear of being called bullies. Haha. Czarmel, one of the speediest guys I know, could’ve easily blocked one pass, but he didn’t. “Pinigilan mo sarili mo ‘no?” I said, and he just laughed.
I hadn’t been that tired in a really long time (”tired” is a good thing after sports), but the next morning, I got up early anyway for dance practice. We finally blocked, and I think I’ve pretty much memorized the steps—I swear, my pick-up was so much faster before!
In the evening, I played another pick-up game, but this was a bit more laidback since there were only three girls and I offered to sub. While we were doing drills, a few foreigners were hanging around after their football game. One asked if he could throw, so I lent him a disc, and he was pretty good. And then another guy asked me to teach him. Thought bubble: I am so not the best person to teach. (I’m even thinking of attending beginner’s night just so I could get the fundamentals down pat.) In the middle of tossing the disc back and forth, the guy, whose English wasn’t perfect, asked, “You want to go some place?” and I assumed he meant, “Do you want to move because we are in the way?” (Or, at least, I convinced myself that that’s what he meant.) Unfortunately, my teammate Greg overheard and wouldn’t let me hear the end of it the rest of the night (and took it upon himself to broadcast what happened)!
No disc on Friday for me, and Saturday’s still a bit iffy because of the Malakas/Maganda finals. Heard there’s a four-on-four tourney this weekend—I’d like to join, but I’m a bit anxious thinking that I’ll be the only girl in the team on the field. A lot of girls in the other teams are super competitive and I’m a little nervous about how I would match up. We’ll see…
Hmm naisip ko rin yun about the 4-on-4…
