My Happy Place

Filed under: Bloggers' Scrapbook — Tisha Alvarez @ 7:16 pm

Let me warn you now—this is going to sound like an ode to Pancake House!

I looove good food and I even maintain a personal food blog (I use “maintain” loosely here as I only get to update it around once a month!), but I always find myself going back to Pancake House. When I can’t decide where to eat, I go to Pancake House. When I want a good salad, I go to Pancake House. When it’s my best friend M’s birthday, or my birthday, we have brunch at Pancake House. When I want to be alone, I go to Pancake House. When I want to get some work done away from my desk, I go to Pancake House, a laptop and magazines in tow. Pancake House is my happy place!

I can walk into the resto in a sour mood, wanting to be a recluse, and I walk out, full and in a much better mood. It helps that the waiters, particularly in Galleria, are really nice. One time, my server tried to guess what I would order—I crave adventure and spontaneity, but I am generally a creature of habit, you see. They’ve got my favorites down pat: Chocolate Chip Pancakes, Chocolate Marble Waffle, Fiesta Taco Salad (which rivals our yummy homemade salad), MMC2 (the spaghetti, Panchicken, and taco combo—plus iced tea!), Mashed Potatoes—you can pretty much bet that I would order one (or two…) of these when I’m there.

It was horrible when they underwent a renovation some months back. I walked to Pancake House, eager to have one of my usuals, and was aghast to find that it was closed. I was practically hyperventilating, and I think I even sent a panicky, exclamation-point-laden message to H (”PANCAKE HOUSE IS CLOSED FOR RENOVATION!!!”). For a few weeks, I had to endure a Pancake House-less existence. (Although now that I think about it, I must have eaten at some other branch…)

The day after they re-opened, I was there for lunch. “Na-miss niyo ang Pancake, ma’am?” asked the waiter, smiling. Oh, yes I did! And it was good to be home.

  1. I adore Pancake House. I write about them so much on my blog people suspect I’m a stockholder. And my first meal in Manila after being in the US for 6 months was in … Pancake House! =)
