Get Your Green Fix in This Concrete Urban Jungle

Filed under: Bloggers' Scrapbook — Emma Cerise @ 11:49 am

Though I am a consummate roadtrip junkie, I have to admit that any trip—be it one to a mall or one past the city limits—wreaks its own havoc in one’s pocket. And although I’d love to hie off to some undiscovered rustic paradise every weekend, I can’t afford to. Even the most frugally planned itineraries will require at least considerable funds for gas or transportation. And when you get there too broke to do anything, well, that’s just oodles of fun, isn’t it?

So what’s a weekend warrior to do for some serious urban detoxing on a cash-strapped Saturday afternoon? Simple, really…head off to your nearest park. I was at Loyola Heights a few weekends ago when I and all of 200 pesos in my wallet decided to slum it in Ateneo de Manila’s baseball field…

It was perfect. I went with my photographer
buddy Koop at around 4pm and stayed till the
sun kind of just languidly reclined into the horizon
like a lazy golden retriever belly flopped on a stoop.
School grounds are pretty much empty on weekends except for a smattering of Saturday class goers and the occasional “industrious student.” But the weekend I went was still well within the Christmas school break. There was no one around… You know that adage “Dance like no one’s looking”? Well, let’s just say I took that to a whole new level…the kind that’s usually tagged with the term “embarrassing.” Oh well…self-deprecation becomes a noble act of selflessness when done for the sake of others’ amusement. (I certainly hope you’re amused, as I wouldn’t want all this humiliting shaizer to be for naught!) Besides, this is too stoopid not to share! And here goes, Emma’s Dance of Dorky!

(Yeah, cut my hair…it’s been above-shoulder for about 5 or 6 months now…ya like? By the way, should you ever share my nose for restos, roadtrips, and everything in between, do share the goods! Email me at emmaitchyfoot@yahoo.com. I’m also online most of the time after dinner, so YM-search me, too! Blogs are fun, but let’s try to shoot the breeze in real time =D)
