BATC: Seafood Paella For 99 Pesos!

Filed under: Project BAC — Emma Cerise @ 11:36 am

Another gustatory hotspot brought to you by cheapskate self-proclaimed feeling-gourmand: OCEAN Seafood (just in case you got confused). Next-door neighbor to Don Galo Tapa, this seafood hole-in-the-wall is also below the Katipunan overpass, across Ateneo (between Gates 2 and 3).

Paella in name, risotto in texture and consistency. But don’t let my nitpicking get to you. This lovely dish is cooked from scratch when ordered, moist, savory, generous with the sea-dwellers, and served piping hot in good-for-two portions! The only hassle is, it’s so good, you’ll kind of get impatient having to shell the mussels and shrimp before you can take the next bite! Another downside, though a forgivable one: the shrimp they serve in the paella are of the smaller variant compared to the ones they serve as a standalone dish. (See next pic!)

Huge shrimp sautéed with toasted garlic—elegant in its simplicity. Other than the fact that they’re cheap (P100 as a rice topping, no more than P150 as full-sized stand-alone viand), they come in decent sizes, not those anorexic things some restos try to charge us megabucks for. But they’re also the first to go among their hottest sellers. So if you want dibs, go for lunch or early dinner.

Check out the rest of the mouth-watering grub and jaw-dropping prices. This calls for a Ripley’s!

Unlike Don Galo, however, this one isn’t open 24 hours, and closes around midnight.

  1. Agh! Just when my body developed an allergy to the only animal meat I choose to eat–seafood–I find out there’s a seafood paella place near my house. Sigh… Maybe I’ll just try one small bowl, and risk itching and looking like an archipelago for a day. :-)
