Clown Country

Filed under: My Thoughts on the Erap Verdict — Faye Ilogon @ 9:00 am

As a tax-paying citizen of this country, I don’t require much from the government. All I want are roads that are fit to commute in, trains that are predictable, and utility services that are reliable. Those are my minimum requirements for a life devoid of whining and impotent rage. Are those needs of mine fulfilled? Everyone knows the answer to that.

So…this is what I have to say about the verdict on Fernando Poe Jr.’s best friend (sorry but I will always think of him as that regardless of his other more lofty qualifications): nothing. What can I say that will make a difference? I’m a measly ant in the food chain. What do I know about who’s telling the truth and who’s lying? Frankly, I don’t care to know anymore because, as our history has shown us, the truth often stinks more than an unwashed thousand-day-old sock that’s been stuffed into the back of the refrigerator.

And, hey, I’m still waiting for justice to be served for what happened to Andres Bonifacio.

That’s really what it is all about in the country. It’s all about who can wait it out the longest for new lies to take over old ones. It’s all about sitting through the most baffling bullshit ever to be dished out to a whole nation. Sorry, but I’ll just get on with my life and keep paying my taxes even if I’m not entirely sure that they end up fixing roads, trains, and such. Call it blind faith. Call it passive-aggressive patriotism. Call it indifference. I’ll snap out of it once they give Andres Bonifacio what’s due him.

Meanwhile, I’ve got no choice but to suck it up and go on living. Life’s too short to whine and bother about crazy politics. We’ve all seen this circus before. Wake me up when the clowns have all left.

P.S.: And I’m not going to apologize for still being sore about an injustice that happened over a century ago. For all we know that injustice is the root of all this bad national karma.
