Manila, Manila

Filed under: Manila, Je T'Aime — Tisha Alvarez @ 7:00 am

Ahh, Manila.

I’m reminded of how much I love you at every meal. At breakfast, lunch, dinner—and everything in between—you’ve got my heart all a-flutter! My hobbit-like eating habits have me eating at the oddest hours (you know, second breakfast, midnight snacks, full meals at 3:00 p.m…), but Manila, you’ve always got something special for me.

You’ve given me chicken and seafood and beef, all bathing in different sauces, or embraced by fragrant herbs…

Chicken stuffed with ham and cheese (that pesto sauce is a nice touch)

Parmesan-crusted white fish that simply mmmelts in your mouth

Halibut served on a bed of open wild mushroom ravioli, at one of the fanciest places I’ve ever dined at

Gindara laced with sweet sauce and resting on some mashed potatoes—the resto was nice and cozy, too!

Beef kebabs served with couscous in a relaxed Spanish Mediterranean resto

…and soup and pizza and pasta…

Tom Yam at a popular Thai roadside carinderia

Pizza at a resto run by an Italian national (how authentic is that?)

Tagliatelle al funghi e tartufo—homemade tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms, truffle oil, and mascarpone cheese (I’m still dreaming about this one!)

…and, of course, dessert, dessert, and more dessert!

My favorite pie: Banoffee Pie, a delicious reward after a good workout, a source of comfort at the end of a terrible day, a great way to celebrate with friends…as you can see, I’ll use any excuse to justify eating this utterly sinful treat! (Haaay, masarap ang bawal!)

This super creamy cake called Mucha Leche practically spits out milk as you slice into it. And it’s covered in white chocolate shavings! Aaaah!

A dessert after my own heart: white cake topped with cured strawberries and ice cream, and generously surrounded with whipped cream

A layer of crushed Oreos, frozen bananas, and ice cream. It’s a whole new way of eating banana split!

My all-time favorite crepe: filled with mangoes, drizzled with chocolate syrup, and topped with vanilla ice cream. Mmmm. It reminds me of being in Bora and having crepes for breakfast.

Sigh. I love you, Manila, because you let me eat my way through you, at whatever time I please. And no matter how much I take, you just keep on giving. I guess you must love me back!

  4. Wow! Nice photos of the food. :)

I’m from the province so I miss the nice restaurants there in Manila. My last visit to Manila was when we had oathtaking after passingthe boards exams.

There are lots of restaurants and food that I have to try especially Italian and veggies which I love.

Re: the lack of good restaurants, maybe you could take this as an opportunity to experiment in the kitchen.:) And congrats on passing the board exams!
