Who am I?

Filed under: Me, Myself, and I — Tisha Alvarez @ 4:02 pm

tisha-in-indonesia.jpgIn journalism class, one of the hardest exercises I had to do was to write a feature article about myself. I had to pretend to be someone else, and pen a story about me, as others see me. Not an easy thing to do, considering I was so close to the subject that it was hard to be objective.

I’ve had a few more years’ worth of writing experience, but this whole describe-yourself business still hasn’t gotten any easier. My 30-something friends tell me that you don’t really know who you are until you’re 30, so I guess I’m still on the road to self-discovery.

In the years since that class, though, my picture of me has gotten clearer, and I’ve determined that the following descriptions of me are pretty accurate: Girl next door. Jill of all trades. Unica hija. Semi-retired cheerdancer. Devoted girlfriend. Food fanatic. Beach lover. Wanderluster. Perpetual homebody (despite evidence to the contrary, I quite enjoy staying in)…I also think that how you spend your time says a lot about you; I spend most of mine pursuing my passions (dancing, for one. It’s probably the only thing that can get me out of bed early, and not begrudgingly, on a Saturday morning) and nurturing my relationships (hanging out with the people who are important to me).

I’ve been officially an adult for a few years now, but I still feel like I have a bit of growing up to do. There’s still so much to learn (it never ends!), a deeper me to get to know, and a better me to strive for. And this is pretty much what my blog is all about—it tracks me as I go about my day-to-day business, try to learn more about myself, and figure out what to do with the rest of my life—it’s a big world out there, and there’s just so much that I could do! I’ll be learning, stumbling, picking myself up, growing…and all the while I’m going to try to do it with a cheerdancer smile!

heck i can so relate to this! but i agree w/ you that the learning curve just keeps going and going and getting-to-know yourself is actually more interesting… =)
