How would you know if your cat has a fever?

My cat had a fever two months ago, but I didn't realize it was a fever right away until I felt her body temperature was hotter than usual. It didn't help that her nose was normally dry, and Dr. Elaine Wexler-Mitchell, D.V.M. from Catchannel.com says it's not always true that a healthy cat should have a wet nose. Catchannel.com lists two ways to tell if your cat has a fever.
- The cat is unusually lethargic and has no appetite.
- His or her ears feel hot to the touch. A cat's normal body temperature is usually between 100.5 and 102.5 degrees Fahrenheit. You can use a digital thermometer to check your cat's temperature.
After realizing that she did have a fever, I brought my cat to the vet where she was given medicine. Wetting my cat's paws also helped lower the temperature. Thankfully, she wasn't diagnosed with anything else.
You shouldn't wait until your cat stops eating before you take him or her to the vet. In any case, it's best to go to the vet so your cat will be diagnosed with the right medicine.
