Ten tips for stunning eyes

Dec 8, 2008 by FN's Trixie Reyna

eyemakeup.jpgEyes make the most difference on a person’s face. Average looks are instantly made more remarkable by bright, expressive eyes, while a beautiful face loses its luster when eyes are dull and tired.

It’s therefore imperative that we know how to properly care for and enhance the beauty of our peepers. Here are ten tips to guide you in bringing out the best in your eyes from top makeup artists, compiled by writer Mariel Chua in last month’s issue of Marie Claire Philippine Edition.

1. Eye liner pencils “are good for beginners, and are non-intimidating for first-time users,” says Harold Santos, color artist for Maybelline New York. To use, begin by gently pulling your eyelid to the side, making it a flat surface. Then dot the spaces between your lashes using the pencil, and connect these to create a clean line. Smudge with a cotton swab for a feathery effect.

2. Liquid eye liners are tricky, but to “achieve a good flick, apply with your eyes slightly open. Look down at the mirror and follow the direction of your eyelid and brush upward toward the outer lash lines,” says Gela Laurel Stehmeier, chief makeup artist for Lancome Paris.

3. The best shade of under-eye concealer is “one or two tones lighter than your skin tone” if your face is even-toned. However, if you have dark shadows under your eyes, use the same shade as your natural color first, and then apply something brighter. Lighter concealers will only call attention to dark under-eye circles.
