Swinging '60s Style by Kate Torralba and Rajo Laurel

The two designers reveal their collections for Paperdolls and Wharton. By Stephanie Castillo
They say it takes two to tango—but The Twist is more of what comes to mind when you see the new collections from Kate Torralba and Rajo Laurel. Inspired by the swinging ‘60s, Kate’s womenswear for Paperdolls and Rajo’s menswear for Wharton abide by a neo-vintage aesthetic that showcases “the new groovy.”

Having already collaborated with Paperdolls in the past, Kate’s collection for the brand is another fun, fresh series of mix-and-match pieces. Shift dresses, blousons, wide-leg trousers, and boxy jackets are among the key items for the season—things that the 21st century girl would translate to London “mod” style.

On the other hand, Rajo’s collection for Wharton is an interpretation of ‘60s youth culture and its revolutionary spirit. Using James Dean, Marlon Brando, and The Beatles as his reference, the designer creates an edgy prepster look that the modern man will love. Sports coats, polo shirts, cropped or cuffed pants, and colorful bowties fit right into the current direction of menswear while still paying homage to past style eras.

Browse through the gallery below for a sneak peak at the new Paperdolls and Wharton apparel by Kate Torralba and Rajo Laurel.

Paperdolls and Wharton are available in SM department stores nationwide.
