It shouldn’t surprise you that the parentheses-like lines that punctuate your nose and mouth are normal--think of them as a welcome present from Father Time! Once you’ve accepted that, you need to study the formula of your moisturizer, because that can spell the difference. If you have dry skin or sleep in an air-conditioned room, consider upgrading your formula (i.e., apply a rich cream instead of a light moisturizer).
Your sleeping habits may also be the culprit. If you sleep on your side, the part of your face that gets pressed against your pillow forms “bed wrinkles,” which smooth out right away when you’re young. But as you age, your skin becomes less resilient so that these lines stay for hours – or permanently! Dr. Vicky Belo suggests sleeping on your back to avoid deepening your crease marks.
