Practical tips to avoid getting breakouts

Feb 2, 2009 by FN's Trixie Reyna

washing_face.jpgAnd you thought you’ll outgrow zits once you’re no longer in your teens. Some women actually do. But to your dismay, not only did you not stop having pimples, you also started developing acne on other parts of your body, like your back and chest!

One of the main culprits for still getting breakouts, even in your 20s and 30s, is stress. It causes your hormone levels to change, making your oil glands go into overdrive, which in turn clogs your pores, according to last month’s issue of Seventeen Philippines.

And while poor hygiene and makeup do not necessarily cause acne—pore-clogging oil and bacteria are to blame—washing your face too much can. It causes your skin to lose moisture, making it prone to irritation and, eventually, breakouts.

You already know the basic skincare steps of cleansing, toning, moisturizing, and protecting with sunscreen, which, if you follow religiously, will help save you from so many skin problems. However, there are some practical changes you can make to further prevent your skin from getting breakouts. See them on the next page.
