Perfect Skin

Jul 24, 2007

4 Basic Skin Types: Do you know which type you have?

Normal Skin neither greasy nor dry.
Oily Skin shiny, often greasy feeling, prone to pimples and open pores.
Dry Skin tight and stretched feeling, particularly after cleansing when flaky patches appear.
Combination Skin T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) area is oily, but other areas (cheeks, neck) are normal to dry.

Your 4-Step Program to Perfect Skin

Cleanse. Clean is nice but remember that too much cleansing will strip your skin’s essential oils. Be gentle! Too much rubbing and scrubbing will be bad for your skin in the long run.
Tone. Toners are formulated to remove excess oil from your skin, as well as oily cleanser residue. It cannot replace a cleanser. The best routine? Use a cleanser (chosen according to your skin type) and follow up with toner in the oily areas.
Moisturize. If your skin feels tight and dry ten minutes after washing your face, it’s best to use moisturizer. For those with combination skin, moisturize the areas that are not greasy (mostly your cheeks and neck.) Use a moisturizer that feels comfortable without being overly greasy.
Exfoliate. This is necessary for removing the dead skin cells, and exposing glowing, flake-free skin. You can achieve this either by using a scrub (use a gentle one) or applying an AHA cream. Alpha hydroxyl acids dissolve the protein bond by which the dead skin cells hang on to. Exfoliate once a week—do it too much and your skin will turn red.

10 Things You Should Know About Your Skin

    1. The skin is the largest organ in the body (it weighs about 7% of your body weight). It provides protection for the internal organs and helps your body resist bacteria and infection.
    2. Skin has three layers: the epidermis (top layer), the dermis (middle layer), and the subcutaneous (the bottom layer).
    3. Skin helps regulate body temperature. When you feel hot, your skin perspires—the sweat cools you down. When you feel cold, blood supply to the extremities is restricted.
    4. Pale skin wrinkles faster than dark skin. Why? Dark skin has more surface lipids which seals the skin against moisture loss.
    5. Asian skin has low risk for skin cancer, but high risk for brown patches.
    6. UVA rays are primarily responsible for aging the skin. UVB rays burn the skin. Both rays are hazardous to the skin.
    7. Smoking ages the skin. It constricts blood flow to the vessels of the dermis, which means less oxygen and fewer nutrients come in, while the waste products are not efficiently carried out.
    8. A free radical (or a radical oxide) lacks a certain electron, and will attempt to steal one from whenever it can. The free radical tears apart healthy body cells, creating damage in the skin’s structure.
    9. Vitamin E fights free radicals by giving electrons to the free radical before they steal from the healthy cells.
    10. Vitamin C is very important for having healthy skin. The dermis uses Vitamin C to make collagen (the supportive mattress to the epidermis).

  • hello! what about the glutathione? is it effective?

    November 23, 2006 at 8:03 am

  • My skin is not ultimately perfect but Im very much satisfied with it. In fact, its the first thing that people notice on me :) I'd be glad to share my regimen. I bet most of it are familiar... just stick to it by all means and you'll realize Im right :) Here yah go... Start the change from with in - - - 1) I eat apple or ponkan once everyday. I never miss! 2) I drink lots of water and try to get enough sleep (though currently, this is impossibe!) But a catnap will do... it brings back the glow. Trust me! 3) Nothing beats the power of vitamins as well - try Squibb and any Vit C. Im using Glutathione at present too. I know its working, just be patient ladies :) 4) Abstain from eating red meat. It makes the skin really oily. Treat yourself twice a week perhaps. We need a bit of everything somehow. 5) Always be OC when it comes to cleanliness. Clean beddings, clean towels, clean powder sponge etc. In short, bawal ang ang burara! hihi Here are the supporting players liable for making my skin mighty fine - - - 6) I use PERVIL for cleansing. 7) I use something from my Dermatologist to tone the t-zone area. 8) I use CETAPHIL as moisturizer. 9) I exfoliate 3x a week with APRICOT SCRUB. 10) I do facials and go to spa once a month. Quite costly but if you intend to be at your best, save up for these and lessen your unnecessary expense! Try now and watch how they do wonders for you!!! =) Goodluck Ladies!

    November 23, 2006 at 9:44 am

  • 11) And oh! i almost forgot! Dont go out of the house with out applying sunblock on ur face. Try VMV's. The best. Its not at all greasy. Very light! :) 12) Lastly, dont put too much make up. But if you have to, wash it off right away! Know what's right and not for you. Be comfortable in your own skin... highlight your *ssets.. downlight your flaws! Say goodbye to unhealthy habits and wake up to a new better YOU!!!!

    November 23, 2006 at 9:53 am

    January 5, 2007 at 8:35 am

  • the best way to get expert advice on skin care is to consult a dermatologist. my derma has been very honest with me and she told me that you have to try out products to find out which one will work for you. it doesn't matter whether ur using a local brand or not. skin reacts differently and what works for me won't necessarily work for you too. so far i've been using dove facial foam (that's what my derma prescribed aside from her products), l'oreal pure zone scrub, toner, moisturizer, clinique sun block... i still get few pimples but bearable unlike before where i get both pimples and cystic acne. i personally think the scrub made the biggest difference because now i get compliments even with the little pimples.

    January 23, 2007 at 10:31 am

  • *bareable** oh and another thing.. apply sun block regardless if ur going out or just staying indoors. the derma said that u can still be hit by sunlight thru windows and open doors. so putting on protection will reap u benefits in the future. i get my spf 30 from the derma just to make sure it's pure and won't cause any breakouts. plus its not greasy and it gets absorbed fast. finishing touch is putting on maybelline clear smooth two way foundation (great for evening out skin tone) or body shop loose powder. always always have oil film with you. too much product will clog pores and attract bacteria.

    March 9, 2007 at 11:16 am

  • i guess we need a dermatologist to tell us the medication or skin care tip suited to our individual skin problems noh? but thanks for the advices we are getting from each one who wrotes in this comments portion, it gives way for cool experimentation and some research. btw jocan, good news my pimples is decreasing. i stopped using the cream that contains resorcinol and thymol. i guess my skin doesn't like the formula. im using a transparent soap alternated with Clearasil as cleanser. I use clarifying toner in the a.m. and sublock. at night, i use oil regulating toner and skin peeling cream. my underarms are dark too, i will experiment again to find out which product could help. good luck to all of us,

At first you have to live with the ichiness and peeling for the first two weeks but after that acne's gone.

  • Girls...for those who have problems with pimples...Diane-35 is super effective..kasi minsan di natin alam na ang main cause pala ng acne natin ay ang ating hormones.even celebrities are using this.It will help you to balance your hormones. So you can achieve clear skin..di lang sa face but to whole body.Maganda rin 'to para sa mga may malalagong buhok all over your body.

  • For scaly legs...Use SORBOLENE...sobrang rare sya dito sa Phil...originated from Australia...but I think meron sya sa Duty Free...or try on e-bay.Super galing na lotion...any kind of skin problem can solve Sorbolene.

  • Hi Kris!!Thanks for you question...by the way mabibili mo ang Diane-35 it's either sa Watsons drugstore or Mercury Drug. The price is 512 pesos. You will see the result for about 4 to 6 months...make sure na sundin mo yung procedure sa pag take ng Diane.Even Cameron Diaz and Regine Velasquez are taking Diane-35.Basta maayos ka lang magtake..and patience is very important.
