Are you afraid to flaunt your legs because of scabs tainting your skin? Do you hate wearing foundation or concealer but can’t do without them because of pimple scars?
There’s no need to hide your long limbs behind jeans or your otherwise healthy skin behind thick makeup for long. Here are some tips to help you get rid of unsightly scars.
Don’t pop, prick, or scratch your pimple or wound. As we always say, prevention is better than cure, that’s why to avoid getting a scab in the first place, resist the urge to even touch your pimple or wound. It’s bound to get infected and you’re sure to have a scar if you do not allow it to heal on its own.
Apply first-aid antibiotic cream or ointment. Keep your wounds clean so they do not get infected. Then rub an over-the-counter antibiotic cream or ointment designed to help reduce scars.
Try lemon. Apply lemon on your scars daily, but be sure to moisturize before going to bed to avoid drying your skin.
Wear sun protection. Too much exposure to the sun without sunscreen can darken your scars and make them more permanent. Be sure you moisturize daily and never leave the house without applying sunscreen with at least SPF 15 and UVA/UVB protection.
Rub on Vitamin E. Break open a capsule of Vitamin E and rub it on existing scars daily to smooth and straighten out collagen, “which is a structural protein found in scar tissue.” Vitamin E helps keep skin soft and moisturized.
Use cocoa butter. Regular use of cocoa butter is supposed to help lighten scars and stretch marks over time. They may not disappear completely, since it all depends on how long you’ve had them or how bad they are, but it will help.
Ask your dermatologist about Alpha Hydroxy Acids and scar treatment products. Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) are natural fruit acids that are used to remove dead skin cells, improving the appearance of acne scars and reducing redness. It also reduces wrinkles and signs of aging, which is why they are among the key ingredients of popular whitening and anti-aging products. Meanwhile, studies have shown that over-the-counter scar-treatment products are 25 to 50 percent effective in improving the appearance of and lightening scars for some, but not for everyone who uses them. Be sure to consult your dermatologist before you use AHA and scar treatment products to know what works best for you.
If the scar looks too deep to heal within the next few years or so, you can also ask your dermatologist for more specialized treatments
such as microdermabrasion, which involves scraping out outer layers of the skin through abrasive crystals allowing scar-free new skin to form, or chemical peel treatment, which involves using chemicals to peel the top layers of skin to expose new inner layers that are free of scars and blemishes.
