Label snobs be warned: the brand-new collection from ready-to-wear giant
SM Department Store will have you rethinking your uppity ways. Ever the accessible source of style, SM's fashions for Spring/Summer 2011 are irresistibly in-vogue, beautifully tailored, and best of all, affordable!
Last week, SM revealed a gorgeous, gargantuan line at Philippine Fashion Week, showing off a variety of styles, from slinky to quirky to classic. The
Ladies Wear collection presented three distinct looks: modern-day drama
inspired by the '20s and '30s, bold
color blocks, and a preview of
beachy summerwear.
First up were drapey Jazz Age numbers that shaped the feminine form. Garments were deliciously draped and embellished with sequins, feathers, and lace for everyday drama factor. A palette of black, white, and nude ensured that the garments were wearable, rather than costumey.
Next came eye-popping pieces in unusual color combinations: fuchsia and cobalt, mustard and teal, plum and fire engine red, and so on. While each garment was difficult to overlook, the real standout piece was a scarlet cowl neck jumpsuit with a garterized drop-waist.
Finally, there were the teaser trends for summer. Vivid prints were central to this part of the collection, most notably: watercolor, tribal, floral, and animal, as well as a mix of the latter two. All the chiffony maxidresses, airy cover-ups, and adorable bikinis will certainly be something to look forward to.
