Film and fashion have always contributed to shaping each other’s path. In some instances, the clothes worn by characters are what are usually remembered about a film. Consider the films of Audrey Hepburn: Sabrina, for instance, marked the earliest partnership between Hepburn and designer Hubert de Givenchy. He went on to design almost Hepburn’s entire movie wardrobe.
In some cases, films even set trends in fashion. Take Clueless for instance: the 90s saw the boom of short plaid skirts and knee-high socks, as worn in the film by lead star Alicia Silverstone. In Desperately Seeking Susan, Madonna cemented her role as 80s icon and fashion fire-starter with black dresses paired with leggings, exposed lacy bras, rhinestone boots, beads, crosses, bracelets, and bleached-out worn hair.
