It’s the season for parties, and we’re here to get you party-ready on weeknights with a 3-step makeup routine that will take you from day to night. The trick to this flawless look is perfecting your daytime makeup (click here for our 5-minute routine). By nighttime, it’s just a matter of retouching it and adding little drama—stronger lip colors, sexier eyes, lusher lashes. To avoid going overboard (and risk looking older!), emphasize just one of your face’s features. If you’re going for statement eyes, keep the lips neutral. If you want to rock a bold lippie, on the other hand, tone down your eye shadow and cheek color.
Step 1: Do a smoldering stare.
Layer a dark or shimmering eye shadow (metal grey, bronze, or black) over your daytime eye makeup. Using a liquid eyeliner in jet black, draw over the upper lash line, gently flicking it out towards the outer edge for a glamorous touch.
Step 2: Bring your lashes back to life.
Your lashes have likely drooped by the end of the day. So just curl them again and add a few more coats of black mascara.
Step 3: Switch to an eye-catching lipstick shade
Red, fuchsia, and wine are easy evening favorites. If you’re sporting a smoky eye look, however, a classy nude lip is your best bet.
Want to see if how the makeup will hold up during the party’s photo ops? L’Oreal Paris chief makeup artist Verna Marin suggests taking a selfie! "It’s a technology that we should take advantage of when correcting our makeup." Here, she shares more professional makeup tricks so you don't carry any trace of the day’s stress.
- Apply your makeup in white light in the absence of natural daylight. Perfect your makeup base (foundation, concealer and powder).
- Avoid heavy foundation and unnecessary concealer because it makes the skin look mature.
- Fake a glowing skin by coordinating your blush and lipstick shades. Apply subtle blush from the apples of the cheeks to the hairline blending well to avoid streaks. Apply your lipstick with lip brush to thoroughly cover lips.
- Your retouch kit should contain oil blotter, powder lipstick and mascara.
